About this listen

The thrilling adventure based on the acclaimed Star Trek: Picard TV series!

Starfleet was everything for Cristóbal Rios…until one horrible, inexplicable day when it all went wrong. Aimless and adrift, he grasps at a chance for a future as an independent freighter captain in an area betrayed by the Federation, the border region with the former Romulan Empire. His greatest desire: to be left alone.

But solitude isn’t in the cards for the captain of La Sirena, who falls into debt to a roving gang of hoodlums from a planet whose society is based on Prohibition-era Earth. Teamed against his will with Ledger, his conniving overseer, Rios begins an odyssey that brings him into conflict with outlaws and fortune seekers, with power brokers and relic hunters across the stars.

Exotic loves and locales await—as well as dangers galore—and Rios learns the hard way that good crewmembers are hard to find, even when you can create your own. And while his meeting with Jean-Luc Picard is years away, Rios finds himself drawing on the Starfleet legend’s experiences when he discovers a mystery that began on one of the galaxy’s most important days....

Can't wait for next book

Probably would have been easier to follow in paperback, but as the story evolved I enjoyed it more and more. Hope there is more to come.

Fun read

Was great to get a background into Rios. This was a fun and action packed story, at times a little too much action that became unbelievable. But overall good.

Disappointed with St Picard? listen to this.

I had high hopes for the Picard tv series only to feel it lacked something. This book and the others in the Picard novels really help to flesh out a time period that is new to the listener. these are what we're missing from that series and I would have been happy for it to be less fast paced to explore these stories on the screen. however I have very much enjoyed listening to this story and find myself hungry for more. I do hope there will be more Picard era novels of the goings on of people not just on board Federation star fleet ships. it is what makes the star wars universe special, and what makes this story special as well. there are certainly some Han solo vibes to this story.

Star Drudgery

I'm a Trekkie. Wasted 10 hours on this drivel waiting for it to kick into gear.
If you expect a sophisticated plot with twists a la Picard then forget it.
It's more like going back to Star Trek the original with basic story lines.
Poor story trading off the Star Trek name.
The Narrator was good but couldn't get this Sci Fi crap fest off the ground.
It's like going for a ride on Discovery but never faster than Thruster speed.
