Prince Harry The Duke of Sussex
About this listen
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother's coffin as the world watched in sorrow-and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling-and how their lives would play out from that point on.
For Harry, this is that story at last.
Before losing his mother, twelve-year-old Prince Harry was known as the carefree one, the happy-go-lucky Spare to the more serious Heir. Grief changed everything. He struggled at school, struggled with anger, with loneliness-and, because he blamed the press for his mother's death, he struggled to accept life in the spotlight.
At twenty-one, he joined the British Army. The discipline gave him structure, and two combat tours made him a hero at home. But he soon felt more lost than ever, suffering from post-traumatic stress and prone to crippling panic attacks. Above all, he couldn't find true love.
Then he met Meghan. The world was swept away by the couple's cinematic romance and rejoiced in their fairy-tale wedding. But from the beginning, Harry and Meghan were preyed upon by the press, subjected to waves of abuse, racism, and lies. Watching his wife suffer, their safety and mental health at risk, Harry saw no other way to prevent the tragedy of history repeating itself but to flee his mother country. Over the centuries, leaving the Royal Family was an act few had dared. The last to try, in fact, had been his mother...
For the first time, Prince Harry tells his own story, chronicling his journey with raw, unflinching honesty. A landmark publication, Spare is full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.

LOVED it! Who better to tell the story of his life than the man himself?
Beautifully written and truly fascinating account of an extraordinary life.
What a breath of fresh air for those of us who are tired of being spoon fed false narratives by a greedy and immoral media machine.

Exceptionally honest account
I have to say that Spare is a very interesting listen - especially being Prince Harry’s own words read (and in parts sung) by him.
He genuinely seems like a right dude. The type of person that under normal circumstances you would meet and instantly become mates.
The lives of those in such an institution are just so far removed from a regular existence. That aside, we are all still human and share so many similarities. As Harry says, their blood is just as red as everyone else’s. We all deserve the same human rights and being born into a public life (or marrying into one) does not wipe those rights away. Whilst many across the globe have their opinions on Harry and Meghan and the whole situation, I applaud them on going it alone, despite the family fall out and consequences, and commend them in putting their honest accounts of events out into the world to explain how and why it got this way.
The constant public speculation and twisting of things must be just torture.
I hope that they get the peace that they deserve.

The story held my interest.
I enjoyed it, I probably wouldn't have finished so quickly if Harry hadn't been the narrator, I couldn't stop listening. I did feel he winged a bit over some things, but he got his greivences across, he bared his soul, and for that I respected him for telling it how it was him. He is a sensitive soul, too much so to be able to play the Royal game as William can quite easily it seems. I hope there will be a second book.

What an insight!
This book was an invitation to understand Harry’s truth on all those moments we’ve witnessed or heard/read about. I just loved it and I so hope people understand that what they think is the ‘truth’, has come from a very biased media, that has skin in the game.

As expected
I thought the majority of this was well written and a good insight into the life of a Royal. Sure there was some mudslinging but that was expected. At times however it was like listening to a fictional tale and not a true memoir. Worth the time. Fascinating.

Definitely worth the read
Spare is narrated by Harry and I couldn’t put it down! A great look into his experiences from before losing his much loved “Mummy” at the tender age of 12. Well written from the heart.

Wow - empaths beware!
I cried about 3-4 times. An insight that we’ve never had the opportunity to experience before! He controlled his narrative and his truth. All the best Harry.
