About this listen
West Cork, Ireland, 1900. The year marks the start of a new century and the birth of three very different women: Kitty Deverill, the flame-haired Anglo-Irish daughter of the castle; Bridie Doyle, the daughter of the Irish cook; and Celia Deverill, Kitty's flamboyant English cousin. Together they grow up on the dreamy grounds of the family's grand estate, Castle Deverill. Yet their peaceful way of life will soon be threatened by Ireland's struggle for independence.

The first in a trilogy that won't dissappoint!
As the first book I've read from this author was not sure what to expect concerned it may have been a light lovestory read. Pleasingly I was exposed to so much more.
We travel with three childhood friends whose lives and fates twist and turn. A wonderful cast of characters kept me engaged. Ireland is the prominent location of the story with great detail around the fight for its independence. This is something I knew so little about which made the experience all that more rewarding. London and New York also make appearances as family secrets and scandals unfold.
This book sets a firm foundation for the remaining books. Looking forward to more from the trilogy and author. Highly recommend.
