About this listen
Where in the world is Somewhere New?
Looking for the secrets of far, far, away, somewhere where they’d never been allowed to go before, Trevor and Liana discovered an unexpected destination within the heart of a lonely and disabled girl. Searching for somewhere a little less safe, a little more unknown, and maybe a little beyond belief, Trevor and Liana found Karen, resigned to life in a wheelchair, too weak to go anywhere.
Karen had physical limitations, but she was an explorer, too. She journeyed far beyond her bonds, deep into her own stories of fairies and little girls. She offered Trevor and Liana a new way of looking at things, and a new way of listening. Through a language of her own invention, she showed them how to speak to the fairies.
"How will we know the fairies can hear us?" Trevor asked.
"Oh, you’ll know," Karen said, "because the birds will sing or the wind will whisper, or maybe even a squirrel will chirp for you. If you listen carefully, you’ll hear them, and you’ll know."
But where exactly were the fairies? They had to be hiding..."in the reflections of everything. It was mirror magic and all anyone could see when they looked for fairies was the reflections of themselves, and the light of the world around them. All they could see was beauty."
This is not only a story of where Trevor and Liana sought to go. It’s a story of our own seeking. It’s about how we believe and make believe, and how we are able to perceive beauty within and around everything we experience. When we are willing to allow what we seek to find us, Somewhere New will always be exactly where we are, and exactly where we hope to be. And when we are willing to believe in each other, in wishes come true, and even the magic in an ordinary mirror, Somewhere New may simply be known as love.
