About this listen
With his signature wit, the award-winning author of Anno Dracula, Kim Newman, reimagines the lives of Raymond Chandler and Boris Karloff in this daring and horrifying tale.
Hollywood, the late 1930s. Raymond Chandler writes detective stories for pulp magazines and drinks more than he should. Boris Karloff plays monsters in the movies. Together, they investigate mysterious matters in a town run by human and inhuman monsters.
Joh Devlin, an investigator for the DA’s office who scores high on insubordination, enlists the pair to work a case that threatens to expose Hollywood’s most horrific secrets. Together, Chandler and Karloff will find out more than they should about the way this town works. And about each other. And, oh yes, monsters aren’t just for the movies.

Very creative book, excellently read
Wonderful re-creation of 1930s Los Angeles, with Hollywood, sci-fi horror and Raymond Chandler mystery. Brilliantly read—I must seek out more books read by Tim Campbell.

More Twists & Turns than Frank's Neck Bolts!
Ok, I'll admit, I struggled for a chapter....then I noted the ever rolling laugh out loud smilies and metaphors; so worked a tad harder to grasp the tricky fantasy, as it rollicked into an ever widening set of strange adventures!
Absolutly love the snappy adventurous devil may care gambits, delivered in an English toffy cad style.
Reminded me of the Seinfeld character Mr Peterson..Elaine's Boss.
This abstract fantacy is humorously Pythonesque, I now wish my friends can listen, so we can drop lines as we all used to recite Monty Python endlessly amusing our best & trusted friends back in the 70's.
Listened at 1.5 speed, which I feel matched the punchy lines & upped my mental stimulation, also found the storyline easier to follow.
This story is destined to sit happily in my all time fav fantasy list.
