About this listen
Winner: Utopia Con LGBTQ+ Book of the Year
"A romance novel meant for the masses. For all humans, for all readers, for all love." (Nicky F. Grant, award-winning author of Behind the Masks)
"EVERYONE needs to read this book! Riveting, electric, and poignant. Emma does not waste her words. Every sentence, every line of this story was magic." (Kate Stewart, USA Today best-selling author)
How long would you wait for love?
Max Kaufman was kicked out of his home as a teen, and his life has been an uphill battle ever since. From addiction and living on the streets, to recovery and putting himself through nursing school, he’s spent the last 10 years rebuilding his shattered sense of self. Now he’s taken a job as a private caretaker to Edward Marsh III, the president and CEO of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Max soon learns Marsh’s multibillion-dollar empire is a gold- and diamond-encrusted web of secrets and lies.
The longer Max works and lives with the Marsh family, the tighter the secrets tangle around him. And his heart - which he’s worked so hard to protect - falls straight into the hands of the distant, cold, and beautiful son of a dynasty....
Silas Marsh is set to inherit the family fortune, but his father is determined his heir be the “perfect” son. Before Silas can take over the company and end its shady business practices, he must prove himself worthy...and deny his true nature.
Silas must choose: stand up to his father by being true to himself and his undeniable feelings for Max or pretend to be someone he is not in order to inherit everything. Even if it means sacrificing a chance at happiness and real love.

Moving and thoughtful m/m romance!
Kicked out of home in his teens, Max Kaufman has worked hard to overcome addiction and financial insecurity. His new job as a private nurse to an embittered, ailing billionaire brings him into contact with Silas Marsh. Silas’s unloving father has put him through hell and Silas is cowed and shut off. Maybe someday, both men will find love, but how long will they wait? This is an extremely well-written and epic love story, tackling conversion therapy and, to a lesser extent, opioid addiction. Above all it tackles the devastating effects of parents withdrawing their love when they learn their child is gay. I was struck by the contrasting characters: while Silas has great power and wealth, he was broken and weak, whereas Max, with no power or wealth, had learnt to be strong. It would be easy to be impatient with Silas, to judge him for not getting his act together a lot sooner than he does, but that would underestimate just how brutal and traumatic his conversion therapy programming was. Audio narrators, Greg Tremblay (Silas) and Zachary Johnson (Max) did a great job capturing the characters and emotion, especially when portraying Silas’s father and during the conversion therapy scenes.

More powerful in audio format
Really enjoyed this in book format - both the storyline and the characters! Interestingly audio strengthened Silas, the narrator emphasising the damage done to him. He is less immediately likeable against the warmth of Max, but the narrator is successful in vocally charting his journey from a closed off frozen existence that allowed no one close to him to an acceptance and eventual embrace of who and what he is! Both the author and the narrator are to be applauded!
