About this listen
From Internet sensation Anna Akana comes a candid and poignant collection of essays about love, loss, and chasing adulthood.
In 2007, Anna Akana lost her teen sister, Kristina, to suicide. In the months that followed, she realized that the one thing helping her process her grief and begin to heal was comedy. So she began making YouTube videos as a form of creative expression and as a way to connect with others. Ten years later, Anna has more than a million subscribers who watch her smart, honest vlogs on her YouTube channel. Her most popular videos, including “How to Put on Your Face” and “Why Girls Should Ask Guys Out”, are comical and provocative, but they all share a deeper message: Your worth is determined by you and you alone. You must learn to love yourself.
In So Much I Want to Tell You, Anna opens up about her own struggles with poor self-esteem and reveals both the highs and lows of coming-of-age. She offers fresh, funny, hard-won advice for young women on everything from self-care to money to sex, and she is refreshingly straightforward about the realities of dating, female friendship, and the hustle required to make your dreams come true. This is Anna’s story, but, as she says, it belongs just as much to Kristina and to every other girl who must learn that growing up can be hard to do. Witty and real, Anna breaks things down in a way only a big sister can.
“This book is filled with the kind of honesty, vulnerability, and determination that makes Anna such a captivating person. One warning: You’ll want to hug her a lot while reading this.” (Natalie Tran, actress and comedian)
“As a woman working in entertainment, Anna Akana is accustomed to feeling vulnerable. Which means that she’s used to being brave. This book is a tribute to the duality of bravery and fear as told through Anna’s experiences to date.” (Hannah Hart, New York Times best-selling author of Buffering: Unshared Tales of a Life Fully Loaded)
“Frank advice on how to live a productive, happy life...written in tribute to a ‘fearless, talented, and bold’ sister.” (Kirkus Reviews)

The most honest and touching book
It’s so good to see social influencer to write a book so real about their life. I could feel her emotion in the book. I absolutely love it!

Fantastic
So incredibly heartbreaking and beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, as did my younger sister. It has given us many topics to discuss and learn from (we are of a similar age gap of Anna and Christina), Anna’s performance truly made it, you can hear every emotion in her voice and she really emphasises on the important parts.

Affective, Wise,
I love this book so much. I really wasn’t prepared for how disarmingly honest the author would be in its content. Her sincerity took me aback as she described her past traumas, lessons learned, successes, and so much more. I came out of the experience of listening to this audiobook so much richer for having done so. I learned new things about myself and gained fresh insight into my own life, traumas and career. Thanks to Anna for having written and performed this so well. It’s surely one I will come back to at different stages of my life.

Loved this book but it was short
Loved Anna's narration and stories but it was so much shorter than I wanted it to be. I would have given it 5 stars if it was longer.

Anna Akana Influenced Me To Be The Person I Am Today
@annaakana is and always will be one of the biggest influences on me. I discovered her when she was first starting out on YouTube in 2012. She's so strong and motivated with an amazing work ethic despite toxic relationships she's been in as well as the loss of her sister. I had a toxic family member that bullied me (step father who is now no longer in my life) and got bullied pretty badly every day at school on top of that. I had the lowest self esteem possible. I avoided mirrors if I didn't need to look into them to get ready. I had no personality. But I kept my chin up because if Anna can be in a place of depression and insecurity and still come into her own and be strong then so can I. And I did. I will never act on what happened in the past but use it as experience and wisdom to know to watch out for red flags in people. Her book is FULL of advice, bad things that have happened to her and what she's learned. This book is the advice she would give to her little sister that she lost and it's powerful (I downloaded the audio book that she narrated herself)
