Superb dual narration

I grabbed this on a recommendation and wow it wasn't what I was expecting. It is a great listen and I fell in love with Snow and just wanted to wrap him up and keep him safe

Sweet mobster romance has some good moments!

A runaway living on the streets, Snow risks his own safety to rescue Simon, an eight yr old boy being snatched and sold by the Russian mob. Simon turns out to be the nephew of Christopher Manos, another powerful mobster and Chris is extremely grateful to Snow for his help. But Snow’s actions require revenge from the Russians and Chris must step in to save the man he is falling for.

I loved the way Snow improved Simon’s life as well as Chris’s and I liked the few edgier moments. I’m not a huge fan of mobster romances, I find they don’t often ring true, and despite the shootouts and kidnappings, this one is pretty Hallmark with some overly schmaltzy moments. I found Chris’s emotional and caring character unlikely but was willing to suspend belief. US voice actors Philip Alces (as Chris) and Joel Leslie (as Snow) worked well together, although Philip’s accent was far too polished for an Italian mobster like Chris (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue).

A good intro to the series

I think I'd have enjoyed this more if I'd read it as one of the narrators isn't my favourite. He did an ok job in this book, but I'll be reading the rest of the series.
I liked Snow and Christopher and of course Christopher's son Simon who is the plreason for them meeting.
This wasn't a dark mafia story, there were a few murders, but it was a pretty sweet romance story overall.

I’m smiling :)

I’ve just finished listening to this and I have a smile from ear to ear. It’s weird because at times in the beginning I thought the narration, characters and the story weren’t going to come together, but it all just seemed to work and that’s mainly due to the strength of Snow. His journey and the delivery of his personality just shone and that’s a credit to both the author and the narrator. I reckon Lady Gaga would have loved to have done a cameo in the concert, I was picturing it so vividly!! There were so many funny scenes and lines involving Snow and Eight.
I loved Eight so much and hope to read his story !!!
This is my first book by Davidson King and I’m about to hit play on my audible app and jump straight into book 2 :)
