About this listen

'The body is in the library,' Colonel Osborne said. 'Come this way.'
Detective Inspector St John Strafford is called in from Dublin to investigate a murder at Ballyglass House - the Co. Wexford family seat of the aristocratic, secretive Osborne family.
Facing obstruction from all angles, Strafford carries on determinedly in his pursuit of the murderer. However, as the snow continues to fall over this ever-expanding mystery, the people of Ballyglass are equally determined to keep their secrets.

Literary Crime Fiction at its best.

A fabulous ‘Who done it?’ plot, brilliantly written with great imagery - as much about the characters and the landscape as the crime, and the bonus - it’s all set in Ireland. Highly recommend.

Brilliant Banville

The creation of atmosphere, the development of plot, gentle shifts in tone, subtle humour………”Snow” is an amalgam of these. Banville never disappoints. Landscape, character and rare insight into an all too familiar evil make for gripping listening. Stanley Townsend is exceptionally skilled. He brings this novel to life. The whole experience consumed me and will stay with me.

Power and evil exposed in a grim tale

One version of the persistent survival of evil aided by collusive public indifference.Courage in exposing it is so often punished. A whistle blower can suffer humiliating rebuff. Here is a gripping tale of murder and revenge brilliantly narrated.

Fabulous

Excellent writing, tight plot, profound style. But the narration lifts it up even higher. I got through it in just over a week!

Such a clever book brilliantly read

I listened to this in a day and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have the book and was going to read it instead but the narration is too good so I reverted to the audio book.
One of the best narrations I’ve listened to and cleverly written nook too.

Explicit paedophilia spoiled it

I was enjoying the book until near the end when the too graphic explanation of paedophilia thoughts and actions of one of the characters that was not needed for the story and became very off putting. It was not relevant to have such detail for the story

So disappointed it’s finished

I love John Banville what an entertaining writer. This is a terrific book if a bit real. The narrator Stanley Townsend is easy to listen to

Thriller and tragicomedy

Banville is a beautiful writer. St John a sexy character. Catholic Ireland, well, the Protestants are hell too. Great taste description of cum.
