About this listen
When boxing was bold, bright, and glamorous and the fights were the hottest sporting events of the year, Joe Frazier was king as the Heavyweight Champion of the World. From 1970 to 1973 he reigned. With a career record of 32-4-1 with twenty-seven knockouts and an Olympic gold medal, Frazier leaves little question that he was one of the greatest fighters of all time.
Well-known, loved, and revered as a gentleman and a fierce competitor in the ring, Joe Frazier speaks his mind in Smokin' Joe - about growing up poor and fighting in the first $2.5million bout; about the early days of his friendship with Muhammad Ali and how their relationship changed; and about the often corrupt world of boxing and what really went on inside and outside the ring.
Personable, good-natured, and funny, Frazier's story is a real delight.

Enjoyed
Enjoyed the book. You can tell he wasn't a Ali fan because he always called him Clay which after reading the book is understandable.

What a great book and life story
I never knew Joe Frasier was the man he was. One of the best books about an untold story I’ve heard.

Read this after reading Ali’s bio
I was inspired to read this after listening to Ali’s bio. I really enjoyed this book but found that Joe had a too simple understanding of what Ali was about whereas Ali gave Joe great credit. Still a great story about a man who was interesting in his own right.

great book great bloke
well now I'm a Frazier fan. what a raw deal he got in the Ali days when Ali was getting all the attention. rightly so but in many ways unjustly so. had not idea that Ali got that personal with Joe and his upbringing when they were dueling it out. He just went down a notch in my books. the good part of the book though was the resilient long suffering and loving character of his Frazier to all those around him good children family friends and associates from the ring. Just imagine if he had won that second fight against Ali. It really was that close. the real classic boxer lost that one. but what a great god fearing man he was to let it all go and move on in life. highly recommend this one.
