About this listen

Who is the man behind the many voices of Rob Brydon? Read by the man himself, this audiobook memoir will reveal the warm heart behind one of Britain's favourite impressionists.

A multi-award-winning actor, writer, comedian and presenter known for his warmth, humour and inspired impressions, Rob Brydon has quickly become one of our very favourite entertainers. But there was a time when it looked like all we'd hear of Rob was his gifted voice.

Growing up in South Wales, Rob had a passion for radio and soon the Welsh airwaves resounded to his hearty burr. However, these were followed by years of misadventure and struggle, before, in the TV series Marion and Geoff and Gavin and Stacey, Rob at last tickled the nation's funny bone. The rest, as they say, is history. Or in his case autobiography.

A Small Man in a Book is a funny, heartfelt, honest, sometimes sad, but mainly funny, memoir of how a young man from Wales very, very slowly became an overnight success.

What a voice

A great listen and a great lesson in "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again". A really enjoyable book, beautifully read. Will listen again.

A witty man indeed, just a little too formal.

I did enjoy the book, but most times it was just a recounting of facts, times and places with minimal description of interaction with people. Having said that there are definitely some laugh out loud moments.

Honest & Humouress

Honest story of the beginnings and the struggles before success. It was peppered with humour and interesting tales and I throughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

Great reading of Rob’s autobiography.... but....

Having this book read by the man himself was outstanding. One of the best voices in the business. But one concern. I think this was only recently released on Audible, yet the book stops in the mid 2000s. So much of Rob’s recent achievements aren’t covered. Nothing of “Would I lie to you?” Or “The trip(s)” in the reading. Still a great reader reading an interesting story and recommended.
