Publisher's Summary

The new novel in the New York Times best-selling Dresden Files series.

No one's tried to kill Harry Dresden for almost an entire year, and his life finally seems to be calming down. For once, the future looks fairly bright. But the past casts one hell of a long shadow.

An old bargain has placed Harry in debt to Mab, monarch of the Winter Court of the Sidhe, the Queen of Air and Darkness - and she's calling in her marker. It's a small favor he can't refuse, one that will trap Harry Dresden between a nightmarish foe and an equally deadly ally, and one that will strain his skills-and loyalties-to their very limits.

It figures. Everything was going too well to last....

Critic Reviews

“Superlative.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

“Butcher...spins an excellent noirish detective yarn in a well-crafted, supernaturally-charged setting. The supporting cast is again fantastic, and Harry’s wit continues to fly in the face of a peril-fraught plot.” (Booklist, starred review)

“A tricky plot complete with against-the-clock pacing, firefights, explosions, and plenty of magic. Longtime series fans as well as newcomers drawn by the SciFi Channel’s TV series based on the novels should find this supernatural mystery a real winner.” (Library Journal)

Best one for a while

Compelling story, I prefer when Dresden is desperate and on the back foot. This didn't let me down.

Loved it but...

It seems to be a petty complaint that in the midst of what l thought was one of the better of these novels, I was irritated the narrator has changed the voices of some characters. Most particularly Thomas and Kincaid. This is silly but it is like putting a new actor in a TV show. Still a ripper of a story and I'm as addicted as ever.

Small Favor continues the story in stella style

Another smart plot with no obvious holes. The characters and Dresden world expands, enriching the storyline and adding further depth to the whole story.

Breathtaking. 😊

So, so, so great. Not only is Small Favor a heck of a rollar coaster to read, the added audio narration by James Masters is superb. Fast paced, exciting, emotional, and breathtaking. I highly recommend this series in audio.

Second time around. Golden Dresden

I first read this series one immediately after the other on Kindle. Right to Ghost Story when I caught up with publication.

With the long wait for Peace Talks, I needed a refresher so decided to mainline the Audible versions.

James Marsters took a few books to get into a groove, but by book four I think he had become not just a narrator, but a genuine fan.

And it shows in his reading. Voice characterisations were a little weaker this book, but his acting was top notch and added enormously to my enjoyment of what is already, in my opinion, the golden period of The Dresden Files.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the catch up, and the two newest novels. Jim Butcher is one of the few authors that REALLY makes urban fantasy work. Dresden is a wonderfully drawn character, and the world he inhabits has evolved continuously in scope and interest with every book.

I thank them both, and highly recommend the series.

Just keeps getting better

I'm not sure what's better really, the narration or the story. Both are amazing and I can't wait to finish what's been released, just to read them all again
