About this listen
Since moving to beautiful Cedar Tree, Colorado, Emma Young, mother of one adult daughter, has worked from home doing some online bookkeeping and baking for her best friend's diner to supplement her disability pension. Life has been pretty good, that is until she received a strange phone call that starts an alarming chain of events.
Investigator Gus Flemming is hot on the trail of a bail skip with organized crime connections that bring him to Cedar Tree. Once there, the focus of his investigation lands squarely on the gently rounded shoulders of a vivacious red haired Emma, whose physical limitations have done nothing to dampen her zest for life.
When it becomes clear that Emma is at risk, Gus does't hesitate to step in and protect her. Call it a job with some very hot benefits....

well this was a gooden
I've little a lot of Freya's books and I love the way she writes older characters and some that are physically challenged. It seems to make the story feel more grounded. the book starts innocent enough, and the opening blew me away. The days flow along as Freya describes the simplicities of life and adds romance and heat to keep you listening and just when you think the case is solved, another plot pops up and takes you down suspense road once again. the side characters were great, allowing for the introduction of the next in the series and more.
I've listened to Tanya and Noel in previous books of Freya's and I enjoy Noel's voice better than Tanya's. the male voices she does are good but her female voice can be a tad youngish. it sounds like she's not the age Freya depicts.
I felt this more so in the Lock n Load series but I'm getting used to her in this set of stories.
I did enjoy the way Noel and Tanya cut into some chapters to speak the female/male voice. I find it didn't happen all the time but it didn't detract from the plotline.
great story, loved the whole up-and-down angst and I have to say well done Freya as I didn't guess the ending

Terrific story, real people!
I first read this book back in April 2016. I was really excited to learn it and the whole series was coming out on audio! I love audio books . I love that the stories are about older characters, real people with real issues. There is suspense, funny, sweet, sexy moments and great secondary characters that get their own story in the following books. All together, they create a richness & depth of story & a great small town feel. The audio book was great, I felt that sometimes the female narrator's dialogue did not flow as well as the male's. But I did overlook it and it was not enough to detract from the story. The whole series is on my "favourite" shelf. Worth a read or a listen.

Too much smutty talk and dreadful one liners... "I have a hard on with your name on it" Seriously??? Gone with the wind southern cliches meets 50 shades and the little I read of that book was crap. if you think any female wants to hear "I want to fuck you good and proper" then pleaae stop writing.
