About this listen
Gotrek and Felix: unsung heroes of the Empire, or nothing more than common thieves and murderers? The truth perhaps lies somewhere in between and depends entirely upon whom you ask....
With their friendship in tatters after a series of betrayals, Gotrek and Felix march south at the head of a ragtag army, intent upon driving the forces of Chaos out of the Empire and returning Felix to his wife. But Gotrek's doom is at hand, and great powers are at work to ensure that he meets it. With enemies on all sides and destiny calling, Felix must make a choice: to follow Gotrek into the darkness that awaits him or to abandon his oldest friend once and for all.
This is the final adventure of Gotrek and Felix. All is revealed as Gotrek meets his doom and Felix's fate is sealed. The story contains the ultimate showdown between the comrades and their greatest foe ever, Be'lakor. The battle is like nothing you've seen before, taking them from the forests of the Empire into the air and to the very Realm of Chaos.

Snoretrek and Sleepit
What a boring rendition of two iconic characters and their normally unique adventures. Gtrek and Flix are on one of their final adventures as the world ends around them, and whilst there is a sense of foreboding and finality in the larger scale of things, the duo lack any real impact in what theyre doing throughout most of the novel.
It is interesting to hear how everything had changed between the characters and story (ie some died, some moved on, some altered) but it gets frustrating hearing Felix yammer on about Ulrika or Kat for the 15th time. We get it. He lost loved ones, but it’s like he has no agency outside of ‘find person X because I miss them lots’. Even Gotrek lacks any agency, he’s now abandoned his quest / oath, and renounced Felix’s (somehow, even though Dwarves don’t even do that), and now only serves to help Felix find his girlfriend. Isn’t he a Slayer, and didn’t Felix swear to record his doom? Why are they now just randomly travelling to a city to find an ordinary girl? In the earlier stories, the lack of agency from the two main characters worked in their favour, as they always seemed to find the forces of evil and stop them. As if the godly forces of order were guiding them inadvertently to save the civilised world. Now we’re just told that random evil bad guy was probably controlling everything from the start so that they can have a big evil bad guy party. Like, who are these people, and how would they have even known about some random dwarf before they became famous? Spoilers from the bookcover, but the baddy is Belacore the evil daemon prince who for whatever reason believes that killing Gotrek will allow the world to fall. But why tell him this? There’s even a spots where they can actually kill Gotrek, but they stop due to plot armour - sorry, “fate”. It comes off as lazy and contrived; big evil baddy was pulling the strings all along, and won’t let the protagonist fall because he has his big bad plans for lots of evil. It’s a major retcon and comes of as a too-late method of introducing a central villain. There’d been no allusion or mention of him earlier, and now suddenly he’s here and we’re told to just accept it.
They bring Makaisson back, and the motha fuggin Spirit of Grungi again and it’s such a bore to read through. Whoever thought it was a good idea to introduce random lessons about dirigible engineering and manufacture ? So much wasted space in these sections covering topics already covered in earlier books and going over Felix reminiscing about old times and family - which he also did in the earlier books.
Slayer, and they didn’t even bother with the naming convention anymore, is, like it’s title, lacking in the flavour and context of the original stories which made them so enjoyable. Call this book ‘Fun Slayer’ and call it a day. If you want an actually interesting book about a manic super dwarf with a magic axe killing a powerful daemon, just read the aptly named ‘Daemon Slayer’.
