Til sin egen forbavselse er Jacob i live. Han er drevet i land på en øde ø. stedet for frelse finder Jacob noget ganske andet. For øen huser mere end bare en venlig ældre eneboer, der kalder sig for Styrmanden. De lokale på naboøen hvisker også om et skibsforlis, hvor hele besætningen forsvandt. Om turister, der sejler derover og aldrig vender tilbage. I mellemtiden er Laura begyndt at lede efter Jacob. Men det er der også andre, der gør. Og Styrmanden vil ikke tillade, at man graver for meget i fortiden.
