Publisher's Summary

Enter a war-torn world where gunpowder and magic collide. The nation of Fatrasta is a haven for criminals, rebels, adventurers and sorcerers seeking relics of the past. As insurrection grows, only the iron will of the Lady Chancellor holds the capital city of Landfall together.

Yet an ancient power as old as time is rising, and the fate of this young nation now rests in the hands of a spy, a disgraced war hero and a mercenary general with a past as turbulent as Landfall's present. Sins of Empire is the bold new epic fantasy from Gemmell Award-winning author Brian McClellan. Look out for Wrath of Empire, book two in the Gods of Blood and Powder series, in May 2018.

great new series

i loved the original trilogy and keen to see where this goes. I like the writers take on magic and it was an interesting bit of spy/detective stuff in this one

Epic

An absolute gem of a book and really stands up to the series. Brilliant story with absolutely great narration, probably my favourite narrator so far

phenomenal author

Great start to another probably jaw dropping trilogy. I can't say I liked it as much as the first gunpowder mage trilogy book but I think it's fair to say I liked it nearly as much (I really really loved that trilogy), and that I have definitely already gotten the next of the series packed and loader to go.

Characters performed perfectly

A terrific performance by the reader. He really brought the characters to life. My only regret is that it seems i have started on the second party of the story. The is a previous set of books that should be read first, but they are not essential to understanding or enjoying this book as the previous events are only referred to not part of the plot.

Loved it

Have to listen to the previous trilogy but this series is starting off even better than the last. The writing is brilliant and I throughly enjoy the way the narrator adds extra depth to the story. Do yourself a favour and have a listen.

Outstanding book!

I absolutely loved this book. Excellent world building with characters that rocked. I love the violence, gore and the battles, the action is tense and the pacing overall is fast and makes for great reading/listening.
Fanstastic to read about Vlora and Olem again and Mad Ben is cool.
One hell of an enjoyable book!

A new series set in the same imaginary world

Laura and Ollam are leaders of a mercenary army.
Mercenaries are for hire and their jobs can be less than ideal, when the hirers don’t have good intentions.
Lindet is the Steward/Chanceller of Fedastra, and she has grander ideas than is good for the country.
Mad Ben Stykes is a larger than life character, with a heart, and is hounded unceasingly by the Black Hats.
The Black Hats are Lady Chanceller’s secret police and their leader hates Stykes beyond reason.

There are other important characters that appear throughout the story, all with their own agendas.
This is a good buy.
