About this listen
They meet in a ferocious snowstorm. She is a young teacher with a secret past. He is the cool, black-caped stranger who unexpectedly comes to her rescue. Between these two unlikely strangers, desire is instantaneous...and utterly impossible to resist.
Stranded together in a rustic country inn, Lucius Marshall, who is the Viscount Sinclair, and Frances Allard share a night of glorious, unforgettable passion. But Frances knows her place, and it is far from the privileged world of the sensual aristocrat. Due to begin her teaching position at Miss Martin's School in Bath, Frances must try to forget that one extraordinary night - and the man who touched her with such exquisite tenderness and abandon.
But Frances cannot hide forever. And when fate once again throws them together, Lucius refuses to take no for an answer. If Frances will not be his wife, he will make her his mistress. So begins an odyssey fraught with intrigue, one that defies propriety and shocks the straitlaced ton. For Lucius's passionate, single-minded pursuit is about to force Frances to give up all her secrets - except one - to win the heart of the man she already loves.
Contains mature themes.

Impetuousity and Patience
It was another great story from Mary Balogh and read by her usual speaker. That makes a difference when seeing what I should add to my listening list. The ending sung with a refreshing approach that one would never expect The Ton to accept. With patience as well as family members on board it all went to plan. However, it took quite a while for the couple to arrive at the wedding stage but I won’t spoil the reading content for you.

An astounding read
A beautiful unfolding of an unforgettable story that had me spellbound. The clever intricative unfolding of this mysterious love story, love lost, love born and everything in between had me gripped to the very end. So clever that the series entwines all the sisters, I can't wait to read the next one. A book worthy of the big screen, loved it.

I didn't hate it!
What can I say, Lucias has serious Peter Pan syndrome but he also has some very endearing qualities. I laughed at him quite a bit and sometimes found his um, persistence a sign of imaturity and privledge I didn't think he was at all malicious though. Francis was also lovely but jaded by things she'd endured in her past as well. I did like the first part of the book and you can see why she felt the attraction to him, I guess the forbidden fruit scenario is alive and well :D.
I liked his grandfather and young sister.
It is a worry however how often he ignored her emphatic NO a few of them in fact. that was a bit hard to excuse at one point.

Not your typical period romance.
Somewhat of a cross between Elizabeth Gaskell and Jane Austen but with a little less of Gaskell's agony and a little less of Austen's morality. The main characters envelope some modern concepts in their actions and respective consciences. The sex scenes were quite tasteful, I thought. Not too vulgar and not too long.
Rosslyn Landor is quite a pleasant narrator. Her range isn't particularly varied but she has a rich, warm voice that suited the main characters well.
