About this listen
Hermann Hesse's famous and influential novel Siddhartha is perhaps the most important and compelling allegory produced in the last hundred years. Integrating Eastern and Western spiritual traditions with psychoanalysis and philosophy, this strangely simple tale, written with a deep and moving empathy for humanity, has touched the lives of millions since its original publication in 1922.
Set in India, Siddhartha is the story of a young Brahmin's search for ultimate reality after meeting with the Buddha. His quest takes him from a life of decadence to asceticism, through the illusory joys of sensual love with a beautiful courtesan and of wealth and fame to the painful struggles with his son and the ultimate wisdom of renunciation.

all time favourite book
Herman Hesse's greatest work, his words and characters like honey and poetry. There are countless gems of wisdom contained within this book about life, samsara and the obstacles on the spiritual path. I've read the book before and really enjoyed listening to it.

Jumbling the name to Siddha-TR spoils the mood
Great book, good narrator, but every time he says the name, he says it wrong: reversing the order of Siddha-RT(a) to Siddha-T(a)R. It's like the epidemic of uneducated folks saying "aKSed" instead of "aSKed", or politicians saying "nucELar" instead of "nucLEar". Not a single editor/producer noticed that the main character is being called something weird and wrong? TR instead of RT? I'll swap it for another narration if I find a decent copy because this one kicks me out of the mood each time the protagonist is mentioned.
