Publisher's Summary

Marshal Teddy Daniels has come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane, to find an escaped murderer named Rachel Solando.

As a killer hurricane bears down on the island, the investigation deepens, and the questions mount. How has a barefoot woman escaped from a locked room? Who is leaving them clues in the form of cryptic codes? And what really goes on in Ward C?

The closer Teddy gets to the truth, the more elusive it becomes. And the more he begins to believe that he may never leave Shutter Island. Because someone is trying to drive him insane....

Finally found a great read

I stumbled across this on goodreads and gave it a shot and I’m really glad I did as it was a great story. I’d not heard of it before, nor had I seen the movie so I didn’t see the end coming. Great narrative also. Will be checking out more of Dennis Lehane’s books 👍🏻

Perfect narrator

The story itself is really intriguing. I must admit I watched the movie first not knowing it was a book. I thought I’d listen to the book rather than read it, and holy crap I’m glad I did. The narrator made this a fantastic listening experience. He altered his voice for each character to make them distinct but not take you out of the story, which I appreciated.
I’d happily recommend this audiobook.

Disturbing

On the surface this book is quite a psychological thriller. It has unexpected twists and turns which kept me listening long after I should have turned it off! I totally enjoyed it right up to the end which left me feeling a little cheated. No, maybe not the right word, anyway you should read it and find out for yourself because in spite of my feelings about the ending, it was very enjoyable while I was listening to it.

Awesome book!

The narration was perfectly performed, except it's missing some sections! Most noteably in chapter 7 when Teddy and Chuck are interviewing Bridget Kerns. Halfway through the interview the narration just stops and starts off at chapter 8, missing the last 10 or so minutes of the chapter! I know there are slight changes from the audio to the book sometimes, and i accept that ... But this is different, there is a fairly sizeable chunk of the story missing!

Other than that, the narration was great! Perfectly performed! He really captured the sound of the different charactors; their pitch, their various races coupled with the tone and speed in which they talked was performed to perfection!

If based on performance alone, it would be an easy 5 stars! But because of those several missing segments, I'm afraid it will be 4 and a half!

Excellent narration!

I was familiar with this story as I’ve watched the movie several times, so the twisty turns we’re all expected, however, the narration.. that was unexpected! What an incredible voice. Really made all the characters come alive and gave the story the depth that it really needs!

Going searching for more titles narrated by Tom Stechschulte!
