About this listen
When two girls are abducted and killed in Missouri, journalist Camille Preaker is sent back to her home town to report on the crimes. Long haunted by a childhood tragedy and estranged from her mother for years, Camille suddenly finds herself installed once again in her family's mansion, reacquainting herself with her distant mother and the half sister she barely knows - a precocious 13-year-old who holds a disquieting grip on the town.
As Camille works to uncover the truth about these violent crimes, she finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly. Clues keep leading to dead ends, forcing Camille to unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past to get at the story. Dogged by her own demons, Camille will have to confront what happened to her years before if she wants to survive this homecoming.

Excellent
Very interesting. Author helps you get to know each character intricately which really draws you in. Very sad in parts & upsetting but interesting & captivating all the same. I really enjoyed this book and Gillian Flynn's 2 other novels Dark Places & Gone Girl. Stories of psychologically damaged females seem to be a recurring theme across all books.

An average attempt at a layered book
Lacking a lot of depth and a pretty cliched look at a lot of really prevalent issues is self harm. Good performance though.

Gripping yet disturbing.
This is the first book by Gillian Flynn I have read, maybe if I had read others I wouldn't have been surprised, however it is a very negative story full of disturbing details. Those details are interesting though and thorough character development make the story gripping. Its just overall not something I want to fill my head with.

An interesting read
It’s difficult to sum up how I feel about this audiobook. The voices and accents were quite grating at times which affected the overall feel of the story. The story was interesting but I can’t see myself ever reading/listening again.

Disturbingly wonderful
This is another of Gillian Flynn's disturbing murder mysteries where a damaged protagonist is confronted with murder.
I enjoy her writing, she manages to pack so much plot into one book. The characters are well formed, settings superb. Her writing is concise and particular. Thoroughly enjoyable to listen to, although this one was a little shorter.
I recommend this book and all her others!

Narrator not so good
A good and interesting story, but the narrator's high pitched voice was difficult to listen to.

Left me spinning and restless
Truly gripping and terrifying. Flynn is a descriptive and brilliant writer; from world building to character voice, she tactically unfolds the story in a gripping and engaging manner. Didn’t think it could top Gone Girl but it did. Deeply psychological and vulnerable work, I can’t stop thinking about it.
Narration was beautiful but character dialogue was average and distracting at times. This didn’t take away from enjoyment of the story.

I enjoyed this book
I’ve read Gone Girl and the story was fascinating. I watched the movie. That book was somewhat long winded however thought I’d listen to Sharp Objects given the reviews and the author and hadn’t realised that this (SO) was her first novel.
It was quite good. The characters were nicely developed and although I was thinking it was going to be a serial killer genre book it was not. It was more so about personal experience and relationships. Enjoyable.
I’ve now started watching the tv series. It’s great, but well worth reading or listening to the audiobook beforehand.

Brilliantly disturbing
Listen to this book in a well lit room or outside in the sunshine and only if you are in a good mental head space.

Awesome!!
I never wanted this to end but couldn’t stop listening. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect narrator for this story. I’m so sad it’s over. Will be looking for another one like it.
