About this listen
In order to finally claim her title of Chosen and lead the Shadow People out of the Land of Mist, Shanti must make it through a centuries-old system to test her battle awareness, her fighting skill, and her ability to stay alive. She's about to enter The Trials, and she must do it alone.
Separated from Shanti on a dangerous island, Cayan must learn to use his mental skill while keeping his men safe from the people set out to kill them. But as more Inkna and Graygual flood the island, Cayan hears of a sinister force deep in the woods, rigging The Trials and killing any who venture too close.
It is now a race against time. The battle to become the Chosen has begun, and the victor is anything but decided.

Great story to listen to
I was going to use Whispersync for Shadow Lands, and switch between reading the ebook and listening to the Audible version - but I enjoyed the Audible so much that I couldn't bring myself to jump ahead in listening after I read some of the ebook, and instead listened to the whole version. It's a great story to listen to.
I loved that Shanti and Cayan's relationship progresses in Shadow Lands - in the previous books it was more about their chemistry. When Cayan tells Shanti what 'mesasha' means........swoon!! Lots of action and fight scenes as well, the Graygual and Inkna are preparing for battle, meanwhile Shanti is also being tested by the Shadow People by entering The Trials. She has to finish successfully to be deemed worthy of their support.
My favourite secondary characters, other than Shanti's boys, would have to be Sanders and Ruisa. Ruisa especially, as she proves how useful she is after having so many doubt her.

I can't get enough!
This series is my first taste of K.F.Breene, and I'm now hooked! I've just looked up her other books and placed them in my wish list. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in this series, which I just purchased. Also Caitlin Davies is phenomenal narrating this story. It is easy to differentiate between characters as they all sound different, and she has mastered Shanti, really bringing her personality to life!

Loving this series and the narration is perfect
The story is getting good. Just great character development and the banter between them is very enjoyable.
I really enjoy listening to this and think that Caitlin Davies is doing a great job capturing the dry laconic essence that Shanti is to me. But also when the action kicks off she brings it up a notch.

The saga continues
Throughly enjoyable again. This 3rd part of the story brings the characters closer than ever to their goal.

Good series, abysmal narrator
This narrator is getting worse. I only made it to chapter two of this book and I simply cannot make myself listen to her anymore. She ‘sing-songs’ each sentence, has predictable speech patterns and generally sucks. She makes Shanti (our heroine) thoroughly boring and unlikeable, when I know, from previously reading this series, that whilst, Shanti is smart and determined, she is also irreverent and a bit of prankster.
I will be taking Audible up on their offer to get a refund for these books.
However, the series is actually good (if two books too long) and worth reading.
