About this listen
Her world was color. Canvas and paint. Indie O'Connell lived inside her head. Her voices the muse. And as a freshman at St. Peter's College, all she wanted was to create a name for herself with the brush in her hand.
His world was over. Despite his humble upbringing, Kai Carter seemed to have it all. Captain of the swim team and a full scholarship. His golden boy status a mask he had to wear to keep his dream and his family afloat. All the pieces of his life dangled precariously from his fingertips.
Forced to fight a battle he'd never signed up for, Kai's loyalty turned out to be his undoing, and like a good captain, no matter what the cost, he'd gone down with the ship. They never planned for their worlds to collide. He was her brother's best friend. She was supposed to be invisible.
Off limits.
Being together, regardless of how much they wanted it, was a line they'd never cross. But when lives get messy, lines get blurred, and in love, nothing is ever black and white.
Contains mature themes.

Soo well written
This book was so well written. Firstly, 2nd books in a series are not always at the same level, but this topped what was already a great book 1. Secondly, it did such a great job in capturing the struggles of living with a mental illness, and addiction (in separate characters). I loved that this gave an honest recount not of her in rehab like most books, but despite hearing the mean voices, this story goes through daily life using healthy habits, therapy & meds and finds the outlet for both of their pains through pouring their emotions into art. interesting turn around for the school jock.
Absolutely beautiful love story of realisjng you don't have to be alone in suffering for yourself or others. very heart warming. Highly recommend and sad to see it is here for a limited time.

A letdown after the fantastic first book!
Art student Indigo O’Connell has a love / hate relationship with the voices in her head which act has her muses and her greatest critics. Kai Carter has alway been captivated by her but because she is the twin of Royal, his best friend, he hardly ever acknowledges her. Kai has had a tough few years: his mom is dying of cancer, he was almost expelled from college for defending Royal, and he may have almost suicided during one of his many heavy drinking sessions. When Indie and Kai meet in the campus mental health waiting room, it’s the start of a relationship of discovery and healing for both of them, but neither can bring themselves to tell Royal or their friends.
After the wonderfully written Let There Be Light (#1), I couldn’t wait to start this but it felt really clichéd and most of it didn’t resonate with me at all—what a letdown! I could appreciate Indie’s and Kai’s mental health problems and that would have made a rich story on its own. Instead, it was diluted by the constant wheel-spinning about whether to tell Royal about the relationship which felt like manufactured drama—especially since Royal confided in Indie and Kai very early on his relationship with Camden (in #1). I also found the sexually experienced male / blushing virginal female too stereotypical, the prom scene too clichéd, and the epilogue too rushed. 🎧 Voice actors Samantha Summers (as Indie) and Teddy Hamilton (as Kai) gave strong audio performances but this strongly confirms my preference for MM over MF romance.
