About this listen
When an ambitious teenage girl from Earth finds herself in a magical realm, she could be the hero—but she'd prefer to be the villain.
When power-hungry Everly is reborn into a medieval world where elemental magic rules and she receives her elemental servants—the oddly sadistic Eris and the fun-loving Titania—years earlier than one typically would, she knows she's destined for a command of necromantic magic the likes of which her peers can only dream.
Though she's the bastard daughter of a count and a precariously positioned concubine, Everly is determined to be a conqueror, warlord, and queen. She could be the hero of the realm, the person to save everyone, with her protectors—the Silver Lance—and her beautiful mage lover by her side.
But Everly's no hero. She's an aspiring villain, seeking the freedom that comes with doing wrong. And before long, she'll make everyone fear the name of the Empress . . .
The first volume of the hit portal fantasy series—with more than 400,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Um definitely something
Imagine Harley Quinn with multiple voices in her head like Deadpool with a Villian complex that can be fun but also down right horrifying. So yea listen and be prepared for a few comical moments but also have your morals guarded because by the end I was feeling sorry for some of her targets of her wrath friends or foe's. So give it a try it's two books this one and see how you go I'm good of not getting the second one cause if this books gets any darker I'm good I like villians but she's really something else.

Horror and More
As always Hollie Jackson does a terrific job, what really held this audio book back was the story and characters. It’s very much tries to be Overlord and Feast and Famine (by JM Alexia. Sadly it fails to find a balance between physiological horror and villain fantasy.
There are a few inconsistencies as you reach the half way point, where it feels as if the world shrinks and too much focus is put on characters that don’t matter in the slightest. The magic system was sped through with the first few chapters, and many of the characters introduced had horrific endings that left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s a tragic story following a tragic protagonist, after a while it become difficult to like her when she starts lashing out at the other likable characters. Overall I’m unsure if I want to complete this series. Loved the sounds though, and the characters were incredible. It’s just the plot feels lost and aimless, or vague and somewhat lost by the end of the book.

Why am I here?
Put flatly, this book is for a particular type of person that wants a particular thing. So even though I think that 2 stars is generous, you probably shouldn’t give that number any weight as that is only reflective of myself and my complete disappointment for this story due to the fact that I, gratefully, am not that type of person.
So with disclaimers done, who is this book for?
If you want an ultra charged power fantasy where the protagonist is unambiguously evil and needlessly sadistic, and includes graphic scenes of gore, then this may be worth your time. I wouldn’t call it a master class of writing, but I’ve seen far worse, and some of the back and forth dialogue is fun and well performed. If you gel with it in the by the end of the first two chapters, then I imagine you’ll like the rest of it too.
If you are expecting the empress to use guile and struggle for power, offer any commentary on society, or showcase political manoeuvring like I did, then you may be disappointed. There’s no redeeming qualities in the protagonist (which is kind of the point), and no progression of her character. In a 5 hour story that could be fine, but in a 19 hour one it is incredibly taxing to maintain interest. The fact that there are more books after this one makes me wonder what I am meant to be here for after the first handful of chapters.
I had rolled the dice on this title in hopes of getting a cultured evil focal character that could offer nuanced look at morality or individualism. But instead I got a cliche 2000s era teenager throwing out pop culture references while committing gruesome acts of cruelty for unexplored reasons.
