About this listen
Don’t miss the first novel in a gripping series featuring DI Clare Mackay, perfect for fans of Alex Gray, D. S. Butler and Rachel Amphlett.
On the night of a wedding celebration, one guest meets a grisly end when he’s killed in a hit-and-run. A card bearing the number ‘five’ has been placed on the victim’s chest. DI Clare Mackay, who recently moved to join the St Andrews force, leads the investigation.
The following night another victim is struck down and a number ‘four’ card is at the scene. Clare and her team realise they’re against the clock to find a killer stalking the streets and bent on carrying out three more murders.
To prevent further deaths, the police have to uncover the link between the victims. But those involved have a lot more at stake than meets the eye. If Clare wants to solve the case, she must face her own past and discover the deepest secrets of the victims - and the killer.

Pleasantly surprised.
This was a genuine "couldn't stop listening" experience for me. Such a delight to find a new "tartan noir" series I feel I can stick with. The author as narrator was really very good - I wasn't expecting that at all. The ending was a wee bit drawn out and rambling but I will certainly be buying more Marion Todd books.

Good story
Story was easy to listen too, it made a pleasant change from the heavy psychological murders. It was well written.

Take the time to enjoy this book
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the very beginning and it didn’t disappoint at all. DI Clare Mackay is an interesting character, as are the other characters. I look forward to continuing with the series to see their development.
The narrator is excellent and brings the characters to life.
I highly recommend this book

Loved it.
Great story line and the horrible subject was well handled. It is also really nice to have the writer as the narrator. Helps the story to flow well

Book asks reader to be as oblivious as the cops in it
This is another one of those crime books that only functions because the cops ignore the obvious red flags. DI Clare Mackay has some potential as a protagonist but is too ignorant of the darker side of life to be believed an experienced officer.
