About this listen

Have you ever woken up, rolled over, and thought to yourself, “I’m pretty sure I’m working for a Super Villain.”

If you haven’t, then maybe you’re not the type of person to work for a global corporation.

Edmund, however, is just such an individual.

He works for Legion: a corporation of unimaginable reach that he barely understands, a corporation that seems determined to put itself smack dab in the middle of a brewing civil war between Super Heroes and Super Villains.

That doesn’t even take into account the fact that the governments of the world don’t seem to be taking too keenly to Legion, either.

All of that is mostly irrelevant to Edmund, though. He works for the company and does all he can to make sure they succeed.

From cleaning up after a bad operation and disposing of bodies to providing hush money, getting rid of agents from opposing intelligence communities, or just helping an informant escape from a Super Villain, Edmund has done it all in this line of work.

That doesn’t fill up the entirety of his life, however.

The rest of it is trying to get a date with the woman he likes and looking out for his little sister while hiding the fact he himself has a superpower.

A superpower that lets him save and load the world whenever he likes as if it were a video game and subject to his personal whims.

At least, that’s what he thought in the beginning.

A trippy wandering through otherlife backrooms

This book is hard to review without spoilers. And fair warning, it is impossible to understand without first followings the many series (not just books, series of books) that make up the sprawling "otherlife" isakai-inspired universe (metaverse?).
This book is a culmination of many different intertwined series and epic characters. I say 'something' because it's clear other books are to come that fill in gaps or may even cause this story to be rewound.
So, it is not a book for everyone; just fans of the insanity writ. Large from William D Arrand, aka Randi Darren.
As one such fan, there are a few gut-punch moments in the book. Be warned, Arrand pulls no punches here. Characters you love will suffer and die. And our hero Ed is nothing like the heroes of the other books. No harems, No swagger. Very little humour unless he is trying. He is very human and broken by his power, even before the story starts.
I feel a little distressed and sad about finishing this book: like the final episode of Blakes Seven. There will be more, though, but the world looks grim.
All up, this gets a strong rating from me, as it has pushed the works of Arrard well beyond his already trippy series. But do not get this book unless you've finished AT MINIMUM these series first: Otherlife, Super Sales on Super Heroes, Wild Wastes, and Right of Redemption.

Couldn't finish the book.

It just loses the magic along the way, and the MC really is stubborn in the relationship sense. If you get rejected, then move on to find a partner who does want you when you ask to be more than friends. This book is tied to his other series, so you have to read the others to understand a bit better what's happening in the rest of the story, so no, I didn't finish the book had like 3 hrs to go but it seemed more like a chore cause it just lost the magic of what this book seemed to be getting at. it did have one cool scene with the dance of death in the store, but that's it.
