About this listen

Starting over was never going to be easy, especially as he's looking for the one thing she can't give ... the truth.

Set in the heart of the Australian countryside comes a compelling romance with a touch of suspense from bestselling author Mandy Magro.

Savannah Garret remains resolute in testifying as the sole eyewitness in Brisbane's most dangerous criminal case. For safety, the police have furnished her with a new identity and instructions to keep to herself. With a shiny new driver's licence in hand and job as a barmaid lined up, this die-hard city girl finds herself stepping off a bus and into the desolate street of the small country town she's now to call home.

Ash Sullivan has it all, money at his fingertips, his own property, and a successful chopper mustering business. But when it comes to love, he's failed miserably. Bitter experience has taught him that if he is ever lucky enough to meet a special woman he can fall for again, she has to be upfront from the get-go, no matter what.

These are two people, as different as chalk and cheese, who were never meant to meet until fate intervened. Will they grow to be the person each other needs? Or will their differences drive them apart?

From Sydney’s seedy underbelly to the back of beyond.

Savannah‘s secret is a lovely story set in a small outback town full of crusty sun-wizened cowboys and down to earth women who work as hard as their male counterparts.
The hub of the town is of course, the pub and this is where the heroine comes to work and live, where she met the love of her life and had him sweep her off her feet with his laid-back charm and of course, his devastating good looks.
Ash and Savannah have quite a few trust issues holding them back from their happily ever after for a time but Savannah’s problems are not of her own making and she is torn in two trying to enjoy falling in love while knowing she is keeping one huge secret from her boyfriend. Ash is a man who nothing less than total honesty will do.
The romance was lovely and the story a little suspenseful as the reader awaits poor Savannah’s date with fate, the descriptions of Ash’s property and the surrounding area makes me want to take a trip to the outback again, and Ash’s pet pig, Pork Chop was hilarious. 🐖.
There was one thing that did begin to pall for me and perhaps I am being ridiculously picky but I found all of the outback colloquialisms a little OTT. It seemed that not one sentence could be spoken that would not sound silly to someone from the city. Savannah is from the city, and yes, there was the odd thing she had to ask the meaning of, but she spoke her share of outback speak too.
I know there are a great many outback
colloquialisms but surely with educated people these have to be offset by normal speak?
The talk kind of turned a lovely romantic story into a bit of a farce for me at times I’m afraid

Not one of the authors best books

I found this book boring and predictable with a basic storyline. This will be the last book I purchase from this author.

Could not finish it, was so boring!! Don’t bother purchasing. Very disappointed as I’ve read other books by this author which were much better.
