About this listen
Joining us at Audible Studios is author, journalist and screenwriter Sarfraz Manzoor.
Manzoor was born in Pakistan and grew up in Luton, UK. Being raised in a Muslim family while attending a mainly white school, Manzoor was more than aware of his differences and was told that white people would never accept him. After graduating from the University of Manchester, Manzoor worked as a producer, reporter and commissioning editor for Channel 4; he has written a memoir - which he turned into a film - as well as many television and radio documentaries, and is a regular contributor to publications such as The Times, The Independent and The Guardian.
Most recently, Manzoor has written They, a book which looks at the preconceptions that Muslims and non-Muslims hold about each other in the Britain. In this interview, Holly Newson speaks to him about his confrontation of British Asian stereotypes through his work, who he wrote They for and what’s changing for Muslims in the UK.
