I want to love it...
Despite the flaws I enjoy the story, I like the world building, the narrator is enjoyable. but there's no drama.
The fight scenes which are just such a large part of this book just don't work. They are dismissive of any monster that the author builds up. the value of stat's and levels and limits of abilities are hyped up but ignored when the author pulls a duex ex machina victory everytime, throwing in involvement from side characters to build the warm and fuzzy family adventurer vibe... there is never any danger and the plot armour is so strong im surprised the main character hasn't force learned a immortality skill from a passing Angel who didn't notice him sneaking up in it while it took a potty break.
there are 20+ characters in the main party and none have died or suffered any major issues at all. there are scenes when he confronts his own mortality and people regularly almost die and he is so worried but "we're fine" is always the response.
Spoiler warning.
For one example, how can one of the side characters attack or even get near a big meaty Minotaur that's so far ahead of the main character in levels that he has to super buff himself in order to keep pace with it. Especially when you look at the stat differences between protagonists base form and the side characters pre buff.
If he is not only ascended but also super buffed in base stat's by his devour ability, plus "In the buff" passive at base and has no hope. then the sidies which donr have access to this, leaving them with roughly 1000 stat's in a couple of categories, and sub 100 in others, are less than gnats to this guy. Surely any character with 1k or less dex will be like a turtle stuck in treacle and wont be able to approach such a beast let alone land a hit and get away or do any real damage.
Without consequences the danger of any scene is lost, the drama of any disaster is meh.
Mistress succubus coming to kill them? Who cares?
he will just cuddle her to death with his phallic chest spike she didn't see coming and pump her with his hot light magic until she explodes just like he did to the last lady succubus despite her being so strong they were less than gnats to her.
Spend your tokens elsewhere. this story has gone stale
