About this listen

From internationally acclaimed New Testament scholar Fr. Raymond F. Collins, essential listening for Christians, Catholics, and all who seek to understand scripture.

Through this audio course, the capstone of Fr. Collin’s decades of teaching and scholarship, you’ll understand Paul’s Epistles like never before. Through 24 erudite and engaging lectures, you will gain new insights into the 13 letters attributed to Paul, the New Testament’s oldest texts.

With Fr. Collins, you will enter into Paul’s world. First, you will look at Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians, Philippians, Philemon, Galatians, Corinthians, and Romans. By examining them in the order in which they were written, you will appreciate how Paul’s epistolary skills developed as he responded to issues that prompted him to write to the five churches. You will then explore the remaining texts in the Pauline corpus. You will look at Second Thessalonians, Colossians, and Ephesians, analyzing the unique character of the texts and the circumstances that prompted their composition. Finally, you will examine the epistles addressed to Timothy and Titus.

This fascinating course will give you a greater understanding of Paul and his works, bringing you to the heart of the New Testament.

This course is part of the Learn25 collection and includes a free PDF study guide.

Critic Reviews

“Fr. Ray Collins is one of the finest New Testament scholars in the English-speaking world.... Fr. Collins uses an easy and understandable style." (Fr. John Ludwig)

“Father Collins’ superb scholarship shines through his accessible, lively and engaging lectures. As a parish director of adult education, I find them extremely helpful. They bring to life the New Testament writings in the context of the early Christian communities, allowing the viewer to better appreciate the relevance of these writings for today." (Fátima Lee, PhD, lay pastoral associate)

“Not only a world class New Testament scholar and a prolific author of over fifteen books and three hundred articles, Fr. Raymond F. Collins is also a dynamic educator who makes complex ideas interesting and accessible to the non-expert. For good reason, he has been invited to conduct seminars, workshops and retreats around the world. If you are interested in solid, sound and erudite Biblical interpretation, look no further.” (Edward Sirois, chair, Religious Studies, La Salle Academy)

An informative intro to Paul's letters

Overall a good critical introduction to the Pauline literature. At times I felt Collins could address other views more.
It would be useful if audible could add the chapter titles which are:
1: Paul, the Letter Writer
2: Letter-Writing in the Ancient World
3: Paul’s First Letter to the Thessalonians: A True Letter
4: The Body of the First Letter to the Thessalonians
5: Paul’s Letter to the Philippians
6: Paul’s Letter to Philemon
7: The Letter to the Galatians
8: Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians, Part I (Chapters 1–6)
9: Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians, Part II (Chapters 7–11)
10: Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians, Part III (Chapters 12–16)
11: Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians, Part I (Chapters 1–6)
12: Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians, Part II (Chapters 7–13)
13: The Letter to the Romans, Part I (Chapters 1–7)
14: The Letter to the Romans, Part II (Chapters 8–11)
15: The Letter to the Romans, Part III (Chapters 12–16)
16: Pseudepigraphy in the Ancient World and in the New Testament
17: The Second Letter to the Thessalonians
