Publisher's Summary

He wasn’t the one I was supposed to marry.

He’s cold.

Brutal.

Calculating.

To his family, I’m a strategic move in their war. To mine, an alliance offers protection against our enemies.

Still, there’s something about him that calls to me. A dark edge threatens to revive me. His gaze steals my breath. Even if my heart thinks this could work, my brain knows better.

We say “I do” with his brother’s blood on our clothes and the bars of my gilded cage slam closed. Our wedding vows are forever - ’til death do us part. But with enemies closing in from all sides, death might be closer than we think.

Please note: This book contains dark content that some listeners may find distressing.

Story was great

i base my reviews on a re read factor, and this one, i dont think i would re read.
I found it a bit hard to follow along with this book, Some of it was a little hard to believe. but some of it was so sweet and shocking that it drew me back in to it.
This isnt my first S Massery book ive read and i usually like her stuff, but this one, wasnt her best.
I am an absolute lover to Jacob Morgan, but i dont think he fits the Italian Mafia vibe with his sexy as hell voice.
Stephanie Rose sounded like she was rushing through the words instead of acting through them. Worth a read, if you like arranged marriage/Mafia as i do, but to me it's not a re read/listen to story.

Story was good, female narrator was.... eh

I love a good mafia romance and this was alright. There was not a lot of mafia side of it all and a lot of it was based of the FMC trauma and the way she was dealing with the death and remarriage. I was not a fan of the FMC (some of the things she did was so inconsistent of her apparant personality, it just felt weird and frustrating) at all but loved the MMC. The spicy scenes were very good but this won't be a story I will be relistening or re-reading but I do want to continue the series.

In saying that, I believe even with the amazing Jacob Morgan doing an amazing job narrating the MMC POV, I just could not stand Stephanie Rose narration. It just did not sit well with me and almost felt like a female captain kirk was reading the FMC POV and it made me just want to quickly skip past her chapters, which is a shame because most of the book is the FMC POV. Knowing that the second book in the series is also narrated by Stephanie Rose has put me off listening to the second one, so I may just read it instead, which is a shame as I do enjoy Troy Duran.

Overall, I gave the audiobook a 3 star as it was not that bad and enjoyable but would have been easily a 4 star if the writing flowed better and because of the female narrator.
