About this listen

Described by Alaska Airlines as a “hop, skip and a jump along Southeast Alaska’s coast”, their ‘Milk Run’ is a flight like no other. It provides a lifeline service to remote communities cut-off from the road network. Originally flown by bush pilots, it now sees three scheduled daily flights in each direction, between them serving nine communities from Seattle in the south, to Anchorage in the north.

Running the Milk is the story of my journey on these flights.

In July 2023, I set off from Seattle, making an overnight stop in every village, town and city served by the Milk Run. Running the Milk reccounts my experiences in Seattle, Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Sitka, Juneau, Yakutat, Cordova and Anchorage.

As an added bonus, the book ends with the tale of an extension of my trip to Barrow in the Alaskan Arctic and finally Fairbanks, before returning to Seattle.
