About this listen
Long before the coming of the Imperium, the realm of Ultramar was ruled by Roboute Guilliman, the last Battle King of Macragge. Even after learning of his true heritage as a primarch son of the Emperor of Mankind, he strove to expand his domain as efficiently and benevolently as possible, with the XIII Legion Ultramarines as his alone to command.
Now, facing a rival empire on the ork-held world of Thoas, Guilliman must choose his weapons carefully - otherwise his dream of a brighter future could be lost forever.

Fantastic insight into Guilliman pre-heresy
I enjoyed this book for the most part, but the ending left a lot to be desired it felt. Really liked the angle of Rowboat trying to massage the external and internal perceptions of the 13th legion after destroying Monarchia (rightfully so, Lorgar is an ass).

Logic brain-gasm
The portrayal of the Ultramarines was very well done.Theoretical and Practical was unexpected by myself as I have not read much of the Ultramarine law but loved listening to them war game and discuss using clear concise logic.

disappointing
After the siege of Terra series I expected much more from this(i know its before). it's really just one perspective of one battle, no real history or insight into the Primarch. and Jonathan Keeble is now the standard for these novels, please let him do them 🙏

Terrible story, Guilliman the moron?
Terrible story, makes Guilliman seem like an idiot. Tactics and strategy employed are unrealistic and idiotic. Also no mention of imperial army or navy forces - space marines did not fight large campaigns on their own. Also very little to orientate the reader in time and space of the larger crusade era. Poor quality writing, impossible to suspend disbelief for even a second.
