Publisher's Summary
Fame and popularity breed envy in high places, and the adulation of the mob is fickle. They often take as much pleasure in tearing down the idols that they have grown tired of as they did in elevating them in the first place. It is safer by far to live unseen and unremarked, as I always attempt to do.
An ancient kingdom. An incredible destiny.
Taita is a humble slave, an expert in art, poetry, medicine and engineering as well as keeping important secrets. He is the most treasured possession of Lord Intef. Yet when Intef's beautiful daughter, Lostris, is married to the Pharaoh, Taita is commanded to follow her and swiftly finds himself deeper than he ever could have imagined in a world of deception and treachery.
But outside the palace, the great kingdom of Egypt is divided and in even greater danger. Enemies threaten on all sides, and only Taita holds the power to save them all....
The first audiobook in the epic Egyptian Series.

Amazing piece of art.
I enjoyed the book.
It’s full with events and information. It gives the reader fascinating view of the ancient Egypt. It’s almost like traveling in time.. when I close my eyes, I can see the Nile and everything there’s to see.
I love Taita and his wisdom. Taita is one example of the great minds in the ancient world and how civilized they were. I loved the scene when Taita saw the first horse and the first wheel.. how he was so fascinated and in Ooh moment.. how he hold the first horse not believing it was an evil soul.
This book is piece of art and we should really celebrate writers like Wilbur Smith.
I can recommend this book as not many people will have the gut to wonder in an ancient world and take the most wonderful journey.

Destiny of River God
Loved the history behind the story and the characters, of Taita the humble intelligent slave, who follows the destiny of his charge, Lostris, and that of a divided Egypt.

Long story but very enjoyable
OK - overall this was a good story - very details and epic
The main character was a bit much though - in the sense that he was a narcissus - he was the best at everything apparently - so he needed to get over himself a bit
PLUS (and this is purely my opinion) the narrators voice / accent etc (who was the main character) to me sounded like 3CPO from Stars Wars so the whole time I could not get the image of a gold robot in ancient Egypt out of my head!!

Wonderfully entertaining story - I loved it
I highly recommend this book to any adult who has a fascination with Ancient Egypt and it really takes you there although I'm sure there is some creative license involved. The story is told through the eyes of a eunuch slave, Taita who is described in the blurb as 'humble'. There is absolutely nothing humble about Taita, but he is beautiful and brilliant and clever and funny and fiercely loyal to those whom he loves, namely his beloved mistress Lostris; and her lover, his best friend Tanis. Taita takes us on an odyssey south to where the Gods created the Nile and delivers us years later to 'this very Egypt'. If this book doesn't make you laugh and cry, you don't have a heart. The narration is brilliant. This is one of my favourite Audible books and I will definitely listen to it again.

Great book!
Easy to say engaged in the captivating adventure. Some boring bits here and there if you weren’t to interested in the history but thoroughly enjoyed this well read story. Looking forward to part 2. Amazing research must have gone into it, well done!!
