About this listen
Newbery Medal-winning author Beverly Cleary gives Henry's dog, Ribsy, center stage in this dog's eye view of the adventure of a lifetime. This classic story about a dog and his boy is as fresh and funny as ever, and the audiobook is appealingly read by Neil Patrick Harris.
Good ol' Ribsy's ever-curious mind has always gotten him into trouble, but this time he may have gone too far. After a comical turn of events, Ribsy finds himself in the wrong station wagon with the wrong children.
Ribsy will do anything to find Henry, but there's plenty of excitement to be had along the way - and scoring a touchdown for a local high school team is only part of the fun!
For kids looking for a fast, funny dog story, Ribsy is a winner. This timeless favorite works well for independent book lovers.

Enjoyed by my 5, 7, 9 and 12 year old
A fun book for a long drive! The boys and girls both laughed out loud at the realistic characters that Ribsy meets on his adventure. Neil Patrick Harris, job well done!

Really good, except for female voices
My seven and nine year olds really enjoyed this story - Beverly Cleary is a master. The narration is largely wonderful. But the biggest problem I had with this book — one that my daughter felt as well — is that Harris consistently voices female characters as annoying, ridiculous, or killjoys. Boys and men, in contrast, sound much more “normal” and authoritative. Some of this is a testament to the time when Cleary wrote the novel. But Harris could have chosen to voice female characters differently (as he does in Socks, where the mother is portrayed much more sympathetically) — and if he had done so, the audio version would be much stronger.

Long winded, annoying girls voices, good writing
Not as good as the Ramona books, but engaging enough and the writing is good. I agree with a previous reviewer that the way the female voices are done by the male narrator is annoying. Some of the chapters go into too much detail in their long winded descriptions of action. The chapter about the escaped squirrel is a bit sexist in a dated way (girls squeal, boys are brave). My 6 yo daughter gives this audiobook 2 out of 5 stars and says it was a bit too long.
