Publisher's Summary

Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she’s been collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors she’s received. Only death or repayment will fulfill the obligations. Only then will the beads disappear. Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the Bargainer to make it happen. He’s a man who can get you anything you want … at a price. And everyone knows that sooner or later he always collects. But for one of his clients, he’s never asked for repayment.

Not until now. When Callie finds the fae king of the night in her room, a grin on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, she knows things are about to change. At first it’s just a chaste kiss—a single bead’s worth—and a promise for more. For the Bargainer, it’s more than just a matter of rekindling an old romance. Something is happening in the Otherworld. Fae warriors are going missing one by one. Only the women are returned, each in a glass casket, a child clutched to their breast. And then there are the whispers among the slaves, whispers of an evil that’s been awoken. If the Bargainer has any hope to save his people, he’ll need the help of the siren he spurned long ago. Only, his foe has a taste for exotic creatures, and Callie just happens to be one.

Tasty story, delicious romance, twisty plot!

Absolutely perfectly written, Laura knows just how to introduce a character arc without overdoing it. All the characters are so relatable and delve into the Fae world without overwhelming you with its intricacies. Bravo! I’m hooked.

Wish I'd read this earlier.

I've been sitting on this book for years but something was holding me back. Maybe it's just the Title wasn't catching me enough. Any way, I lived it. I loved the fact that it was set partly on The Isle of Man- if I had've known that, I would've read it sooner. I enjoyed the past and present POV. I wish there had been some chapters by Des, you just don't get to enjoy his wrath like you could have if it had been from his pov. But it is definitely not finished yet, so onto book 2 we go.

I loved the narrator l, she was great!

Don’t waste your time

This book was great. I really liked it hence the review. however, the second book in the series is 3 out of 5 and the last… giving it 2 out of 5 is being extremely generous.
I made it two hours from the end and stopped listening. It was boring. The main character becomes annoying and immature.
So I would say don’t waste your time with this book because you will feel obligated to finish the series and it isn’t worth finishing.

I want to take Desmond home with me

I absolutely adored this book, ploughed through it within a day. Call me a sucker for a sweet male, but I am ready to take Desmond as my bookboyfriend. The dedication he shows towards Calli is so sweet, I loved reading the prgress of him winning her back. There was just enough suspense in the story to give the undertones for the next book and I always prefer the second book to have the couple fighting side by side. I have already started book 2 and am loving it, can't wait to see how it progresses.

Entertaining and enjoyable.

I don’t know if it was the title or the blurb but I skipped past this book multiple times before finally choosing it on a whim. And it was really enjoyable.

The narration was excellent and the storytelling was good. I would have liked the plot-line, that I assume connects the series, to progress more consistently throughout the story, rather than primarily in the final few chapters. And it would have been really nice for some of the supporting characters to be more developed.

That being said, I would listen to the next in the series.

Great read (listen 😀)

Strong characters and strong story line. Enjoyed the dark romance and the parallel story of human world and Fae world.

Didn't do it for me

Not amazing but tolerable. Not a series I will continue to listen to. The narration was ok but the story fell flat.

Nauseating

The plot and characters have been based on pathological personality disorders. A heroine who is devoid of personal agency continually at the mercy of rotating psychopaths. Okay, the main love interest is kinda cute but lacks imagination. Cheap plot devices instead of genuine character development. Use your imagination to reframe the characters and rewrite the plot and it will hopefully make getting to the end worthwhile.

The care of The Bargainer

Although it may seem odd, the care outweighs the more explicit scenes and I hope the 2nd book is just as interesting. I think it could have been just as good without overly explaining their intimacy; however in saying that, removed it may not have provided the characters persona and growth of their relationship.
