About this listen

A line has been drawn - Indie versus Pro.

Here at GearShark, we're straddling that line to bring you exclusive coverage of what some have dubbed the war of racing. Every war starts with a spark and ends in revolution. Drew Forrester was the spark, but his second-in-command, Trent Mask, is the revolution. What does it take to stand brave in the face of opposition? Resolve of steel.... Stubborn will.... And a heart that refuses to give up.

Contains mature themes.

Lots of engine revving, but little movement …

Having taken a beating from some homophobic frat brothers and some bad advice from his magic 8 ball (yes, really), frat boy Trent feels he can’t continue his relationship with indie car driver Drew Forrester. Cue the endless revving and wheel-spinning as they spend chapter after chapter rehashing their insecurities and feelings. Apart from the lack of plot, I found the author’s writing style very repetitive, hammering the same point in five sentences when one would do. #Junkie featured Drew’s street driving career which was an interesting point of difference with most m/m romances, but there is a lack of racing in #Rev and it goes nowhere s-l-o-w-l-y. I’m also really uncomfortable with the misogyny expressed by the characters and the view that being gay is a ‘lifestyle choice’. Audio narrators Luke Itzvic (as Drew) and Guy Locke (as Trent) tried but sounded ponderous at best (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue).
