Publisher's Summary
Nothing and no one can stop assassin Nathan Stone.
When black-ops asset Nathan Stone took out the heads of the Commission, a secret deep-state organization, he thought he’d destroyed them for good. Now he’s gone off the grid, trying to get as far away from his past as possible. But the Commission isn’t done with him yet.
Lying low in a Miami bar, Stone knows something’s up when an alluring actress strikes up a conversation with him. His suspicions are correct. The Commission is hot on his trail, and Stone is soon forced to run deep into the heart of the Everglades with the terrified woman as his hostage. He’s the Commission’s number one target - and this time nothing will stop them from eliminating him.
But Nathan Stone is no ordinary target. The crew of mercenary assassins on his heels have no idea what’s in store for them on the River of Grass. Because the hunt is on, and they picked the wrong prey.

Not the polished writing we've come to expect
I've been madly reading / listening to everything by JB Turner this past month since happening upon the first Reznik book. This series has been a struggle compared to the more human/2-dimensional Reznik thrillers, but I liked the premise this book offered with Stone showing some relatable vulnerability at long last.
Then along came the foul mouthed actress, given roughly 4 lines of dialogue which she repeated over and over and over and over until I was literally screaming at the assassin to go back to his 1-dimensional purpose and just shoot her as she feared he would! Yeeeessh!
Apart from the character issues, the story felt a bit done-on-the-fly, again nothing like the Reznik books I'd happily compare to Baldacci's well-plotted Camel Club series.
A bit of a disappointment, but I'd still grab up the next book by this author - confident this was just an anomaly!

First two books were good… skip this one!
I sadly have to agree with other reviewers of this book. The character Beatrice is beyond unbearable. At one point I was literally shouting out loud “kill her!!” … yes, she’s that bad.
I enjoyed the first book in this series, but wasn’t sure how I felt about Stone. After the second book, I liked Stone a lot more. So I was hugely disappointed in this book. Very little real progression of the story. Just a story about Stone and Beatrice trying to escape and all of us just wanting Stone to get rid of her!
After this… I’m not sure I’ll continue with the series.
Only plus is the narrator is very good… he did the best he could with an average story.
