About this listen

The interview with Diana Princess of Wales that was aired on 20th November 1995 was a sensational triumph for the BBC and journalist Martin Bashir. But soon after airing, stories started to emerge that claimed Martin Bashir had lied to Diana in order to secure the interview.

Bashir and the BBC denied the allegations, but public pressure forced the BBC to carry out an investigation. They cleared themselves of any wrong doing. Despite the BBC never reporting the allegations, and giving evasive answers to questions, the story wouldn't die.

After two untrusted investigations, the government finally came to Lord Dyson, to carry out a very through and deep dive into details of how the interview with Her Royal Highness was arranged, and how the subsequent investigations were carried out.

In this his final report, Lord Dyson reveals the underhanded practices of Bashir, and the cover up launched by the BBC.
