Som 31-årig tager Annette Birkmann en stor beslutning. Halvandet år efter at hendes ægteskab er gået i stykker, dropper hun sin karriere som advokat for at udleve sin gamle barnedrøm om at køre på motorcykel. Hun rejser til Buenos Aires og får arbejde på et motorcykelværksted og derpå følger en rejse på 53.000 kilometer ene kvinde på motorcykel til Ildlandet i Argentina og videre til Mexico City. Hendes mål er at finde sig selv, at lære at leve i overensstemmelse med sig selv. Det bliver til en både indre og ydre rejse igennem nogle af de smukkeste egne i verden fyldt med glæde, ensomhed og store tanker.
