About this listen

In one of his most enlightening works, C.S. Lewis shares his ruminations on both the form and the meaning of selected psalms. In the introduction he explains, "I write for the unlearned about things in which I am unlearned myself." Consequently, he takes on a tone of thoughtful collegiality as he writes on one of the Bible's most elusive books.

Characteristically graceful and lucid, Lewis cautions us that the psalms were originally written as songs that should now be read in the spirit of lyric poetry rather than as doctrinal treatises or sermons. Drawing from daily life as well as the literary world, Lewis begins to reveal the mystery that often shrouds the psalms.

Meat, not milk

Vast in its scope, overview and references; deep in its theology. Lewis at once contextualizes and contrasts the Psalms with ancient literature and modern thought.

Awesome

Any Christian will undoubtedly appreciate his insights into Scripture. He is so eloquent and his sentence structure is sometimes so complex that I feel I have been dumbed-down by of our modern school standards. But I was so grateful to have listened to this. To listen to this book (especially in particular portions) is to meditate on the Word of God.

It goes without saying that Cs Lewis is one of the great thinkers and really explores depths of certain topics. This book is one such example and is definitely worth reading

Great thoughts.

Lewis is very smart with his thinking. He provides interesting insights into the psalms. The only issue I found, was he was a bit hard to follow at a few points. Apart from that great!
