About this listen
When we talk about an abuser, what comes to mind might be someone that repeatedly oppresses others. We associate abuse with insulting, cruel, and generally offensive language. While this is true, narcissistic abuse, unfortunately, goes further than that. While it could be subtle or overt, most times, it comes in precise form that you won’t always detect as abuse.
Someone who manipulates and confuses you, for instance, is not directly abusing you. This person is indirectly playing on your subconscious in a bid to get what they want from you. These mind games and many others are the forms that many narcissist cases of abuse take. With time, as the abuse proceeds, you develop what is called a trauma bond with your abuser and accept it as a normal way of life.
No one in their right mind would subject themselves to narcissistic abuse. However, it occurs in covert forms and can accumulate gradually. The damage does not happen in distinct ways that you expect, but the invisible scars are there along with the pain.... With time, you start to lose yourself to the person in control since the abuse has broken down your self-esteem and self-worth.
Imagine this:
You have been violated to the point that your sense of reality is distorted. They manipulated you, lied to you, gaslighted you, and ridiculed you so much that you have lost faith in yourself. You don’t believe in yourself or your emotions anymore. You thought you knew your partner. You felt he cared deeply for you, and you expected a happily ever after with them.
