About this listen
Countdown: At long last, an extraterrestrial civilization reached out and made the First Contact. The end of their message showed humankind how to access a mysterious game. But as people figure out this mysterious game, the countdown timer ticks away. And no one can say exactly what will happen when Earth's safety is no longer guaranteed.
External Threat: Gnat is on his voyage with the Shiamiru, all the while trying to find backup for humanity among the great spacefaring races. Gnat does not expect gratitude from his leaders for taking such matters into his own hands, but when have laws and rules ever stopped our intrepid hero before?
Game Changer: Our suzerains and defenders the Geckho are also caught up in this all-encompassing conflict. Gnat is with the Shiamiru crew on the front lines. He's just changed class to Listener and his friends find themselves right in the thick of this grand interstellar war....
Web of Worlds: The enemy has grown stronger and more numerous. How can our world possibly stand up against such an enemy? Our only hope is the bravery and tenacity of our best fighters, those who'd rather die than surrender. Well, that and a starship captained by one lone mage.

A very entertaining listen despite some obvious flaws.
I wish I could give this 5 stars, because the story has that kind of potential,
However the editing/translation could be significantly improved. Also, the narrator does mispronounce words occasionally (e.g. nuclear) and uses a glottal stop for a double t in words like kitten and button which I find mildly irritating.
The main character is somewhat arrogant, and the women are generally portrayed poorly, and yet the story telling makes up for all of these faults and I am really enjoying the series.

Okay 'Space' litRPG. Some narration issues.
I'd read book one a long time ago and really enjoyed it, so decided to grab this bundle as lets face it, 50+ hours for one credit is a great deal by anyone's standards.
The first book is great. Set in the very near future (or maybe even present day) aliens give humanity the technology to access interstellar virtual reality and the hero enters a secret government program to protect the earth. It's full of fun exploits and unique gameplay, with a hero that kicks ass and has fun and does things his own way.
This is a Russian translation. It's pretty good, but not perfect. There's lots of narration that feels just a little awkward, like when the MC and every other character starts saying 'By the way' as a means to join sentences or add to concepts. But it's not a deal breaker and you quickly get used to it.
The book itself is set in Russia and the MC is very 'Russian' in his way of thinking. I can't say this is a bad thing either, because this is what the author intended, but I will say that the it's different to a Western POV which can sometimes be unsettling. For example, when everyone just has a very casual regard for the fact that the authorities in the VR game torture people, or when the MC takes it for granted that government organisations are corrupt.
But moving on. For me, the series unfortunately goes downhill after book one. It isn't bad, but it's just not the rollicking fun ride that book one was. For a start, whereas book one was set mainly on earth, books 2-4 were predominantly set in space. Fine if you like space stuff, but I'm more into fantasy, so this wasn't really for me.
The narrator also starts making some strange choices after book one. I mean, he does a semi decent job, but it's like the narrator doesn't have a very large range, so after the first few voices accents start to stretch into the slightly ridiculous. Then in book 4, things change again. One of the side characters just suddenly gets a totally different voice! It's all just a little sub-par. Nothing that would make you put the book down, but I've definitely heard it done better before.
Stats in this book are perfect for audiobook. They're there, and you occasionally hear them, but they don't bog things down and they're far enough apart that they don't impede the listening experience.
So this was a difficult book to judge. In terms of value for money, I definitely got value. But you know something is wrong when you just start tuning out when listening and hoping for the book to come to an end. I think if you were into Sci-Fi litrpg, you might rate this book slightly higher.

A good yarn, entertaining performance and incredible value for money
I loved getting 40 plus hours of fairly engaging performance and storyline. Some real originality packed amongst long favourite sci fi concepts makes for a good experience. More than a few laughs and generally fast paced. A few questionable ideas as to character motive etc, the odd inexplicable action from a character almost cut from the Mary Sue mold - but these are small blemishes on what is a superb value product that really entertains. Great work Michael and Rudy!

Good Concept, poorly executed
Great story concept and I love a LitRPG, this one is not up there with the better ones, but it is a cut above the really poor ones. good value for listening hours but the narration is a little dry and the some typical "main chr does everything right and has minimal challenges to overcome" tropieness. Reads like a teenage boy who desperately wants to be recognised for being a clever tactician and told they're smart, but really they're just average, so they try to write themselves into a role where they are.
