About this listen

This hot-headed rookie needs discipline - on and off the field.

As a teenager crushing on Jake Fitzgerald, his big brother's teammate, pitcher Nico Agresta decided he can never act on his desire for men. Nico is desperate to live up to his Italian American family's baseball legacy, and if he can win Rookie of the Year in the big leagues like his dad and brother did, maybe he can prove he's worthy.

At 34, veteran catcher Jake just wants to finish out his contract and retire. His team doesn't have a prayer of making the playoffs, but who needs the stress anyway? Jake lost his passion for the game - and life - after driving away the man he loved. He swore he'll never risk his heart again.

Then he's traded to a team that wants a vet behind the plate to tame their new star pitcher. Jake is shocked to find the gangly kid he once knew has grown into a gorgeous young man. Tightly wound Nico's having trouble controlling his temper in his quest for perfection and needs a firm hand. Jake fights to teach him patience and restraint on the mound - but when the push and pull explodes into the bedroom, can they control their hearts?

Contains mature themes.

I loved all the different impressions of each differing character and they way it was performed was captivating

It’s a really good book and I recommend, it’s wholesome funny and it’s got some mature elements too if you love that kind of stuff, it’s rather…raw, but in an endearing way 😃

Fantastic even if you don’t like baseball

To think I nearly skipped this one because I don’t like sports!! What a beautiful story. Amazing work as always from both Keira Andrews and Greg Boudreaux.

Great characters, plot and sports action!

Nearing the end of his pro-baseball career, Jake Fitzgerald takes most things in his stride, even his last minute trade to a new team. His calmness works wonders on rookie pitcher Nico Agresta, who suffers from nerves and negative self-talk. Both men are in the closet, but a heated exchange sparks more than their tempers. Nico’s low self-esteem drives him to try and earn his bigoted father’s respect, but it’s Jake’s respect that will heal him. I thoroughly enjoyed this sports romance, it was just the right balance of sport and romance. I really liked Jake and Nico, despite Nico’s occasional blow ups. I also loved the subplots dealing with Nico’s family and Jake’s estranged best-friend - very satisfying! Greg Boudreaux’s narration knocked it out of the park, another great audio performance (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue).

a good read dealing with important issues

a little too much BDSM for my taste, but it fitted with the narrative, and made for a great journey for them both. as always, well drawn characters who draw you into their lives and have you rooting for them to find their happy ever after

Not for me

I struggled with this story for two reasons,
1. I am not at all familiar with Baseball and kept getting lost on account of it not being a thing in the part of the world I come from, and
2. I decided that I don't really like BDSM.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying anything about what folk like, I am simply saying that it does not resound with me in any way. So I found myself zapping through this book, skipping ahead to get to the story about the two boys falling for each other.
Very well written and the narration by Greg Boudreaux was, as always, excellent. His ability to add inflection for each and every character really bring s them alive.
So not for me, but it might be for you.
