About this listen
Kali Parks is a shadow in the war between two factions that are fighting to gain control of Chicago. Born and raised on the streets, she stands as a silent sentinel at her brother’s side as he battles to gain control. She will do whatever it takes to bring peace to those she has pledged her life to protect, including fighting against the creatures that came to their world almost six years before. Razor, a councilman for the Alliance, has been sent to oversee the remaining Trivator troops on Earth and make sure the transition for the induction of Earth into the Alliance goes smoothly. He is the one the Alliance calls when they have a situation that needs to be resolved once and for all. His reputation for dealing with difficult rebels is renowned. He asks no questions and takes no prisoners. His job is to eliminate all threats to the Alliance. He finds himself torn between duty and something he is unfamiliar with: his heart. When a shadow warrior saves his life and disappears, he discovers his world is no longer as cut and dry as he thought.
The more he learns, the more he discovers he is not immune to the warrior’s passionate desire to fight to protect her people. Forced by duty to settle the conflict, he must decide between the Alliance and his own desire to claim the unwilling warrior. When the conflict escalates, he does the only thing he can; he makes a pact with one of the factions in exchange for a prize that will surely cause a battle of a different kind - the one for his traitorous heart. Will he be able to claim her before she escapes from him again? Or worse, will she sacrifice her life to protect those she loves before he can?

lgreat book
I loved this story, book two in the series. Even though Razor was barely mentioned in the first book, it has blended well

great addition
As mentioned before, Razor hasn't really come up, and there was a review asking why he was put in as book 2.
For me, I can totally understand why. Razor's ship is needed, and so is his lady, and the timeline works nicely. It also gives us a background on Destin. and I see he has his own book.
the Trivs are still raging mysoginists, but if you look at this series in the light, of "it's an alien race" so that's how they were created, just like they are struggling with earths, fiesty females.
I was a bit confused when our h fell into line with the H....in the steamy bits...as it was a suprise, but she did have an agenda.
I was wondering how Ms. Smith was going to get Razor out of his predicament, but she found an avenue that panned our nicely.
great pace. awesome strong female lead and our typical alpha alien trope. if you like this trope and steam and HEA and great narration, then have a go at this series. David Brenin was brilliant 👏 looking forward to the next book.

Enjoyable as always.
AUDIBLE REVIEW
Pleasant to listen to but still not sure why this was book two. I put it down to needing the new characters for the following books.
BOOK REVIEW
Was surprised this book was not about one of the two younger sisters from book one.
We go off at a tangent to meet Razor, the brother of Hunter in book one.
Razor is an alliance council member who has been sent to earth to subdue the resistance and fighting going on that is hurting the inhabitants and planet.
He does this by wiping out whole cities in just one hours’ time with their advanced weaponry.
In the middle of the battle for Chicago is Kali, who is second and the head of security to her brother Destin.
They are the good guys trying to help the people but they have an enemy, who was once a friend, trying to bring them down.
Kali saves Razor’s life and thus begins his interaction with her and her brother.
We have more information and background and both human and alien baddies, that are only interested in lining their own pockets, or getting the better of others.
I really liked Kali but found her interaction with her brother a little bit overwhelming. Sure they only had each other to rely on but I am sure Destin is not celibate like Kali thinks she has to be.
There is quite a bit going on story wise and in the background which I enjoyed.
I did also enjoy when we went to Rachon, the Trivators home planet, and all our characters from book one came to visit.
But did we really need the other woman waiting half dressed in Razor’s bedroom when they first arrive at Razor’s home.
All this did was upset Kali badly, even if it made Razor realise how much she meant to him after she had left him.
Though I did love her punching the woman out.
Cannot wait for the next book.

Romance/scifi
I really enjoyed this light romance, some humour and a bit erotic. If this is what you enjoy then do listen to this series.

5 stars ⭐️
I have this series on audible, and this is a re-listen 😃 it is still 5 stars, it is well written, full of action and adventure, the characters are so lovable, and the narrator does such a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life.
