Then in 1945, as the war drew to a close, he disappeared after being taken into custody by Soviet military police. Today his fate is still unknown.

Lest we forget

A rather lengthy introduction could have been omitted in view of these details uncovered in the story in later chapters. Otherwise a very thorough treatment of a fascinating subject
