About this listen
"But everyone else has it." "If you loved me, you'd get it for me!" When you hear these comments from your kids, it can be tough not to cave. You love your children - don't you want them to be happy and to fit in?
Kristen Welch knows firsthand that it's not that easy. In fact she's found out that when you say yes too often, it's not only hard on your peace of mind and your wallet - it actually puts your kids at long-term risk.
In Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World, Kristen shares the ups and downs in her own family's journey of discovering why it's healthiest not to give one's kids everything. Teaching them the difference between "want" and "need" is the first step in the right direction. With many practical tips and anecdotes, she shares how to help kids become hardworking, fulfilled, and successful adults.

Good wholesome advice
It’s useful, common sense advice. Has a very Christian lens, which may suit some ppl more than others.

It’s like having a chat over a cuppa
If you are a Christian mum who wants to be a positive role model for her children, wants to stop them from following the crowd, from behaving entitled and help them to be responsible, grateful and generous, but you feel guilty whenever you try, then this book is for you! It’s not too late to start.
What I like about this book is that Kristen has written this book from a place of humility. She doesn’t pretend that she and her husband know it all or that her family is perfect. It’s like talking to another mum over a cuppa tea. She shares her failures and family mishaps and how they led her to figure out what was the best thing to do, to help her kids overcome feeling entitled and constantly asking for more things. She gives practical advice and helpful bible verses that are spot on. It’s definitely what I needed to hear.
I’m looking forward to Kristen writing another book. I’d love to hear what she has to say on the next stage of parenting young adult children and the empty nest phase. As I said, reading this book was like having a chat with Kristen over a cuppa tea. So I would love to have a chat with Kristen about this.

The real-life and long term effects of gratitude
Kristen reads the book with a gentle, non-judgemental conviction. I found this book challenging to myself as well as helpful in raising our children. As a child born in a third world country to a migrant in the Western world I appreciated her authority to speak on the topic. As a bonus this book helped take away a lot of the guilt I feel as a parent for setting different standards and saying 'no' when I felt it necessary.

The application and references to the Bible and Christian family values.
I love the references to the Bible and Christian family values. Indeed teaching children gratitude and contentment not only by modeling it, but by way of guiding children to live a way of life that prioritizes God before them.

Very insightful!
Lot's of valuable and practical information to take away from this book, but unfortunately its marred by all the religious nonsense. Everything can be applied with a secular approach, so if you can push past the derogatory and homophobic statements you'll find this great.
