Appalling narration ruins it
The first thing I noticed was how odd the narration was. I looked it up and apparently it is narrated by someone called Dalan E. Decker, but I'm not convinced that it isn't a computer narration. It is too off to be a human narration. I can forgive (just) the woeful pronunciation of some common place names, but pronouncing the bow of the ship as boe (as in hoe), rather than bow (as in now) is just too wierd. You find yourself waiting for the next piece of poor pronunciation, rather than listening to the story.
As for the story. Okay, but not exactly a scholarly work. It wanders all over the place and many episodes are repeated in a different form a little later, making you wonder if you were listening in the first place. Maybe I wasn't. I struggled.
Summary - there must be better books on viking history out there.

Lackluster and monotone
The reader lacked anything more than monotone reading, the book sounded more like a listing of citations more than a cohesive book
