Get Mark Billingham's pulse-racing new Tom Thorne thriller, The Murder Book, now!
My name is Alice. I'm a police officer. I'm trying to solve a murder on a psychiatric ward. But I'm also a patient.
They were meant to be safe on Fleet Ward: psychiatric patients monitored, treated, cared for. But now one of their number is found murdered, and the accusations begin to fly. Was it one of his fellow patients? A member of staff? Or did someone come in from the outside?
DC Alice Armitage is methodical, tireless, and she's quickly on the trail of the killer.
The only problem is, Alice is a patient too.

Can’t handle the voice actor
Love this actor on TV but the northern accent was incessant and just annoyed me to the fact where I was missing the actual story.
Not my favourite Bilingham, bring back Thorne soon pls.

A challenging but worthwhile listen.
Loved Maxine Peake’s narration her urgency and time I felt fitted the story.
A novel based in a psychiatric ward is pretty remarkable, with a nursing background I enjoyed this aspect of it.
Alice’s chaos was at times a hard listen ( perhaps why mental health wasn’t my chosen route) however I loved the untangling and of her character and found myself rooting for her.
I found it worth the listen but can see why it wouldn’t be for everyone
