About this listen

From two leaders of the FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement, a bold, contrarian guide to retiring at any age, with a reproducible formula to financial independence

A bull***t-free guide to growing your wealth, retiring early, and living life on your own terms

Kristy Shen retired with a million dollars at the age of thirty-one, and she did it without hitting a home run on the stock market, starting the next Snapchat in her garage, or investing in hot real estate. Learn how to cut down on spending without decreasing your quality of life, build a million-dollar portfolio, fortify your investments to survive bear markets and black-swan events, and use the 4 percent rule and the Yield Shield--so you can quit the rat race forever. Not everyone can become an entrepreneur or a real estate baron; the rest of us need Shen's mathematically proven approach to retire decades before sixty-five.

Excellent and easy to understand

Really enjoyed this book - so easy to listen to her relaxed style and found her explanation of things so understandable for someone who hasn't had any experience in the stock market and bonds. Will be listening to a few times more!!

Some good tips and thinking

The book is a great story on her life. It also holds some good tips even if you do not live in Canada or USA. What I liked about the book is how it made me think, review and challenge the current status quo or assumed ‘path of life’.

The chapter on how to manage when you have kids should be less opinionated though. It assumes world educators to the best option for all kids and the chapter focussed more on debusting the assumed cost to raise a child rather than providing more of the previous chapters tips and food for thought.

Overall a good book and one that makes us challenge our status quo.

It will be interesting to know how the author would write this book in the current covid world since a large part of their life is based on travel to reduce living expenses...

The Impossible is Possible!

Loved this book. It was like all the puzzle pieces I had in my head fell into place. I especially liked the information about how to travel and live off an investment income, which now makes sense. Written mainly for US/Canadian investment structures, however, I will be able to adapt to an Australian investment strategy easily enough.

A sure fire way to undo any money mindset work

I was really excited to read this book as it had been mentioned in many FIRE pages.
If you have done any work on your money mindset, please steer away from this book as she talks a lot about scarcity, how the world is not fair etc.
As someone that grew up poor and has done a lot of work in healing my relationship with money this book was one that fed into all that I had learnt growing up which didn't serve me at all.
She speaks about the fact that she has read the books on energetics of money etc but it didn't work. Confirmation bias prehaps.
I didn't finish this book, I found that it was a never ending story on negative money mindset.

Life story

Its a nice story pretty much.
Nothings new under the sun, work, save, avoid debt, invest surplus and sit tight.

Her life story

Disappointed with this book. It’s a book about her life story. This would be good for someone with very limited financial intelligence.

It is a story book,

It is a story book, no valuable lessons. I was expected investments advices. It is good for teenagers not for seniors.
