About this listen
Start teaching your child how to be resilient from an early age....
Jump on board and join the well-being adventures of Self-Elf, Worry Torry, and Super Huper as they work through anxiety together as “Team Self” on their stress less quest.
The Stress Less Quest Books allow Self-Elf to have many exciting adventures, using parts of his brain and coping kit tools to help him travel through life’s challenges. The learning within each story will assist in his quest to become a detective in search of facts and clues, connecting why he thinks, feels, and acts the way he does. Consequently, through awareness and action, he can tap into his power to scale his anxiety down, gather courage, and utilize coping strategies.
Quest One: Run Away Feet allows the listener to journey with Self-Elf as he steps into his fears, talks back to his thoughts, and uses his ability to adapt and get back on track when things don’t go as planned.
Join in his joy as he learns from past mistakes and moves forward, rather than wallowing on (what he views) as failure. Watch him grow, build inner strength, boost his confidence, and successfully run again!
My lighthearted books are enjoyable stand-alone stories. They also demonstrate learning through association.
Resilience is the capability to cope with life’s challenges and the ability to work through stress, adversity, failure, and hurt. It's not a characteristic that children have or don't have–it's a learned skill that can develop as they grow.
It’s been proposed that there are linked elements that make up being resilient. These include character, competence, confidence, connection, contribution, control, and coping.
This line of thought suggests that resilient children are more likely to step out of their comfort zone, tackle problems, and step into their fears because they don't dread falling short of expectations. So when difficult chapters and rough patches present, their positive mindset and potential to bounce back helps them emerge stronger, recover from setbacks, and return to living a manageable, happy, and enjoyable existence.
It's so rewarding to watch when children experience life’s ups and downs and have the acquired skills to deal with them positively.
Parents and caregivers play an essential role in the teaching and learning process. Secure relationships with others (and one's self) set the foundation for good mental health and well-being. Connection, love, and support all contribute to a healthy, balanced development. These values are supported in my books.
As an integrative CBT counsellor and holistic health therapist, I encourage my clients to challenge negative thoughts and develop flexible, realistic, optimistic ways of thinking. I help them manage or find a solution to problems and implement action plans to assist when dealing with a negative stuck mindset, difficult situations, and the twists and turns of daily life.
Creating, writing, and illustrating this lovely series provides an additional support platform for me to utilize my knowledge and skills to help children with their mental health.
Knowing that my books may help even one child to think, feel, and be the best version of themselves makes me feel wholeheartedly blessed.
